The upcoming auction by AstaGuru, titled 'Masterpieces and Editions,' will feature a variety of works by global masters from various periods of modern art
Artists such as Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Bernard Buffet, Marc Chagall, René Magritte, and Joan Miró are among those whose works are featured in this exquisitely curated collection, which spans the rich tapestry of artistic evolution from the early 20th-century movements to the groundbreaking artistic expressions of the contemporary era. The exquisitely curated collection also includes works by Surrealist master Salvador Dal and three distinct mediums by pop art icon Andy Warhol. A variety of signature-style works by internationally renowned contemporary artists, including Jeff Koons, Damien Hirst, Fernando Botero, Anthony James, and KAWS, are also available.
The auction will take place on July 20-21, 2023.

France, which emerged as a melting ground of modern art and shaped the trajectory of world art history, is represented by a number of artworks in the auction.
The French artist Pierre-Auguste Renoir created the work entitled Pont Sur La Seine:
Lot no. 2. The graphite-on-paper piece is titled 'Pont Sur La Seine,' which translates to 'Bridge Over The Seine' in English. Several renowned artists have depicted the substance of contemporary life and the significance of architectural elements by depicting this iconic subject. This parcel is estimated to cost between INR 14,000 and 16,00,000. Henri Matisse - Nu Allongé (Odalisque):Lot no. 12 is a painting by Henri Matisse titled Nu Allongé (Odalisque). The 1920 pencil on paper work depicts a naked figure in a reclining position. It is anticipated to cost between INR 65,200,000 and INR 750,000.
Bernard Buffet - 'Tête De Femme:
Lot no. 14 is a portrait by another important French master, executed by Bernard Buffet. Titled 'Tête De Femme,' it was created in 1958 with coloured crayons on paper and is estimated to sell for between INR 55,27,800 and INR 66,40,000.A variety of works by Spanish artistic luminaries, such as Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dal, will also be featured prominently in the upcoming auction.
Pablo Picasso - Nu Couché:
Lot no. 3 by Pablo Picasso, titled Nu Couché, is estimated to sell for between INR 3,942,500 and INR 4,988,000. In 1969, the figurative work was created with a pencil on paper. 1976 also saw its publication in the book Pablo Picasso by C. Zervos. In 1966, Picasso's 85th birthday was commemorated by the creation of a limited edition of offset lithographs based on his 'Barcelona Suite' paintings.
Lot no. 6 is a significant example of this edition. It is a portrait of model Benedetta Bianco, also known as Madam Ricardo Canals, with an estimated price range of INR 12,100,000 14,00,000. The artist has hand-signed the work.
Salvador Dal:
Four works by the master surrealist Salvador Dal will also be available at the auction. One of these, lot number 10, is a renowned sculpture titled 'Horse Saddled with Time,' the first of a limited edition of eight. This bronze sculpture from 1980 combines two recurring motifs throughout Salvador Dal's career: horses and timepieces. The motif of the molten clock, which represents the passage of time, is synonymous with Dal's 1931 painting 'The Persistence of Memory,' which is regarded as one of the most significant works in the history of Surrealism. It is estimated to cost between INR 3, 6852,000 and INR 4, 980,000. Lot no. 9 titled 'The Sprint At Evian (Perrier)' was produced in 1968 for a Perrier water advertisement. The composition, executed with ink and collage on gilded paper, is adorned with placements of brightly coloured figurative collage figures. It is anticipated to sell for between INR 46,06,500 and 53,950,000. Lot no. 8, a bronze sculpture by the same artist titled Homage To Terpsichore (Ed: 211/350), is estimated to sell for between INR 9, 21,300 and INR 13,28,000.Joan Miró - L'oustachi:
A work by another significant Spanish artist, Joan Miró, is estimated to fetch between INR 18,46,200 and INR 21,58,000. It was titled 'L'oustachi (Ed: 41/50)' and executed in 1978.Marc Chagall - Biography:
Lot no. 20, a work in Chagall's signature style, is estimated to sell for INR 3, 6852,000 to 4, 980,000. It was executed in 1959 with gouache, colour pencil, Indian ink, colour inks, and oil pastel on Japanese paper and titled "Profile."
Andy Warhol:
Four works by Andy Warhol, one of the most iconic figures of the Retro Era, will also be available at the auction. Lot no. 18 is a portrait, a fundamental motif in Warhol's artistic practise. The work titled 'Portrait Of Joseph Beuys' was derived from a solitary Polaroid photograph that Warhol took of German conceptual artist Joseph Beuys. It is estimated to cost between INR 1,410,000 and 1,600,000.Another significant portrait is lot no. 17 titled Jacqueline Kennedy III (Jackie III) 15 (Ed: 19/200), depicting Jacqueline Kennedy III. 1966's silkscreen print on paper is estimated to sell for between INR 20,75,000 and INR 29,05,000. Lot number 15 is a one-of-a-kind piece titled 'Dog (Cocker Spaniel)'. It was created with graphite on paper between 1980 and 1989 and is estimated to sell for 23,300 to 25,000 INR.
Also available is lot number 16, one of the posters designed by Warhol in 1967 to commemorate the Fifth New York Film Festival at Lincoln Centre in New York. It is anticipated to sell for between INR 4, 60,650 and 6,64,000.
Fernando Botero - Couple:
Lot no. 21, titled 'Couple,' is a 2009 pencil and watercolour on paper masterpiece by the renowned Colombian artist Fernando Botero. Fernando Botero's artistic prowess resonates globally due to his signature style of rotund and distended forms. This piece is estimated to sell for between 64,49,100 and 74,70,000 INR.
David Hockney - My Pool And Terrace:
Lot no. 26 is a piece by one of the 20th century's most influential British artists, David Hockney. This artwork titled 'My Pool And Terrace (From eight by eight to celebrate the temporary contemporary) (Ed: AP + 250)' was completed in 1983 and is estimated to sell for INR 18, 46,200 21,58,000.
