Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Ltd (ABFRL) has formed a strategic alliance with Galeries Lafayette, whose flagship shop on Boulevard Haussmann in Paris is internationally recognised, to develop luxury department stores and a specialised e-commerce platform in India. The flagship shops in Mumbai and Delhi will house over two hundred premium and designer brands. The 90,000-square-foot flagship shop in Mumbai is anticipated to open in 2024.
Two boutiques, one in Mumbai and one in Delhi, would contain two hundred premium brands.
It will be located in two historic buildings that just celebrated a century in Fort's history district, the city's economic and cultural epicentre. The architectural company Virgile & Partners, which has worked extensively on renowned department shops worldwide, is presently designing the project. Pike Preston is the collaboration's official adviser.
The 65,000 square foot store in Delhi is anticipated to open in 2025 at DLF Emporio, one of India's biggest luxury shopping malls. Galeries Lafayette, Delhi will supplement the mall's present offerings with a collection of innovative, youthful designer brands across many categories.
Ashish Dikshit, managing director of Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited, described the relationship as a rite of passage for Indian luxury. India is now home to a population of young, rich, and worldly consumers who are eager to spend money on life's better pleasures. This is seen in the thriving and dynamic luxury sector. The relationship with Galeries Lafayette was a resounding affirmation of India's importance as a global luxury market and a potential development engine for luxury brands.
Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail's profound and nuanced grasp of the Indian context, coupled with Galeries Lafayette's worldwide expertise, will allow them to establish a world-class destination for Indian customers and international luxury brands.
Nicolas Houzé, CEO of Galeries Lafayette and BHV Marais, said that they were pleased to grow their worldwide presence in a market as renowned and sophisticated as India, and that they feel their brand has a promising future there. It is also a fresh example of their goal to open 20 shops overseas by 2025, with a particular emphasis on China, Asia, and the Middle East. On this initiative, they were thrilled to collaborate with Aditya Birla Group, with whom they share the same retail values and vision, and are certain that they are the ideal partner to help them achieve the expectations of Indian consumers.
Galeries Lafayette’s experience-focused design and promise around entertainment, technology and interaction will be brought to life via installations, pop ups, unique events and food & beverage explorations. Backed by personal stylists and omni-channel enabled linked shopping, the locations will create a 360-degree retail experience that speaks directly to customer’s demands.
