When we talk about luxury real estate, one property that can never miss our eye is South Mumbai’s Antilia. Parked on Altamount Road, one of the most expensive locations in the world with a per square foot for any real estate ranging from an exorbitant Rs 75,000 to Rs 95,000. Antilia is home to Asia’s richest man, who’s also No-9 in the exclusive club of the world’s top 10 richest people with a net worth of $64.5 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index- Mr Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries Ltd.
Antilia is evaluated to be the world’s second most expensive property after the Buckingham Palace. This 400,000-square foot massive estate has 27 stories with double height ceilings, is equivalent to a 40-story building and costs $2 billion. Designed by Chicago-based architects Perkins and Will in association with Leighton Holdings, which is based in Australia, taking command of the construction, Antilia is believed to survive an earthquake of magnitude 8 on the Richter scale and needs a staff of 600 for normal functioning. The name ‘Antilia’ is inspired from a mythical island in the Atlantic Ocean.
Interior Design
The sun and the lotus- are the two design motifs that form the foundation of the architectural design at Antilia using extraordinary materials like marble, crystal and mother-of-pearl. The most interesting feature of this massive estate is that no two floors are analogous in terms of the materials used and even the plans. Each master rooms is designed in its own unique manner, with a completely different design. The architecture revolves around the idea of blending styles and architectural elements so each floor accords an impression of consistency but at the same time no recurrence.
Embraces Indian Culture and Talent
The richest man in Asia embraces his Indian roots. Be it crystal chandeliers, silver railings or woven rugs, the Ambanis have used Indian companies, contractors and craftsmen. The modern designs are collocated with the elements of Indian culture. This is evident in their lounge design which features a wine room and movie theatre carved like ginkgo leaves which are native to India. There is also a mega-temple as their sole place of worship, along with several guest suites.
Ambani family’s fetish for cars
Antilia has devoted 6 floors just for cars, which has a capacity for 168 cars. How can we not embrace the car service station on the 7th floor of this massive property dedicated for maintaining these cars.
Want to beat the Mumbai Heat?
When it comes to beating the Mumbai heat, Don’t you worry, Antilia has that covered. Ambani family don’t travel to Switzerland, but have their very own snow room that helps them triumph the hot summers. The walls of this room expectorate man-made snowflakes.
Not 1, Not 2, But 3 Helipads
If you reside in Antilia, you certainly don’t have to bother about the Mumbai traffic. Yes, Antilia has 3 helipads on the terrace, along with a floor which is its very own air traffic control room.
Speedy Elevators:
Did someone say high-speed elevators? Antilia has not one but 9 of them, each of them devoted to different floors in the mansion. These elevators can take the family and guests all over the mansion. The lobby alone has nine elevators.
Private recreational hub
This luxurious property also has home theatre that can accommodate 50 people with an outdoor and indoor bar. For maintaining a healthy environment, this floor is also home to a swimming pool dance centre and yoga studio. Moreover, the mansion not only accommodates plenty of powder rooms and an entertainment centre, but also has a massive room known as the "entourage room" dedicated for the staff, 600 of them, who work full-time to maintain the mansion. Additionally, the property also has its very own salon and spa and ice-cream parlour. These blueprints showcase the two-story recreational.
In house garden
An in-house garden is not something you usually see in a building in Mumbai. But Antilia makes even a in-house garden possible. It not only has a four-story open garden, but also an atrium. It is situated behind the W- shaped girder that supports the upper floors. The garden accommodates hydroponic plants and fixed trees which not only plays a vital role for the external beautification of the property, but also operates as an energy saving device which absorbs sunlight , thus averting it from the living area, keeping it cool in summer and warm in winter.
Entertainment and Gathering
Silver covered railings of the stairs and a large ballroom, with 80 percent of he ceiling covered in crystal and chandeliers is what brings out the luxury and elegance of this mansion. The Ballroom area also features rare pieces of art, several LCD monitors and entrenched speakers along with stages for entertainment.
They dont call Altamount Road the billionaire lane for no reason. The fact that Antilia is at Altamount Road has pushed the Altamount real estate prices northwards for sure.
When we talk about Antilia, it can be called the champion of luxury real estate and housing, with an impressive array of special features. Antilia is truly an architectural marvel. It is also a feather in the cap of luxury real estate in Mumbai.
