Are Chocolate And Luxury Hotels Miscible? Looks Like We Are About to Find Out!

Joel Cadbury, heir to one of the biggest, sweetest companies in the world, has planned to open a massive luxury hotel in Chelsea along with Ollie Vigors. The hotel in question will be modelled upon the duo’s pre-existing colossal country hotel, the Beaverbrook, located in Leatherhead.

A quick little history lesson into the famous Beaverbrook- it was previously home to the press baron Lord Beaverbook. Cadbury and Vigors invested more than a 100 million pounds in the Beaverbrook, and luckily for them, the gorgeous sprawling hotel has continued to remain solidly booked ever since reopening on July 4. Seems like the Britons finally noticed the beauty of their own country, even if it took a pandemic to open their eyes.

Joining hands with the property group Cadogen Estates, (who own significant land in Chelsea and the neighbouring area of Knightsbridge), for this ambitious venture, a whopping 25 million pounds has already been invested to revamp two Georgian buildings to house the new hotel.

Taking up this project is undeniably an extremely bold decision in the face of the current crisis. The pandemic has substantially reduced the influx of global tourists, businessmen, travellers and visitors coming in. Some optimists do believe that luxury markets may prove to be more robust, however, there is no gainsaying the 77% decrease in luxury hotel occupancy in the last few months.

Mr. Cadbury is one of the optimists, though, and believes in the philosophy of ‘this too shall pass’. Since the opening date for the hotel lies in the spring/summer months of next year, he is positive it will be a really good and exciting time to be opening a beautiful new hotel.

Another reassuring part about this venture is that the current recession has translated into a much better overall cost for the entire project, although, Cadbury admits that the final cost will be much more than 25 million pounds. Art is expensive, after all.

Let’s sit tight, though, and hopefully one of us will be sipping tea and gorging on some English breakfast delicacies inside of this soon-to-be mansion of a hotel.
