Aston Martin DBX707 at Formula 1®
2 March 2023 – Manama, Bahrain:
As the Official FIA Medical Vehicle of Formula 1®, Aston Martin will debut the DBX707, the world's most powerful ultra-luxury SUV, on Sunday during the season opener of the 2023 FIA Formula 1 World ChampionshipTM in Bahrain.
The DBX707's engine, transmission, suspension, and brakes have been dramatically enhanced, pushing the Aston Martin brand to the pinnacle of SUV performance. Add precise dynamics, a new intimidating external design, and an enhanced interior, and the DBX707 becomes the nexus of performance and sophistication. It is the class's fastest, most powerful, most fun, and most agile car.
Throughout the last two Grand Prix seasons, the previous DBX Medical Vehicle was responsible for transporting the sport's medics to the scene of an incident. DBX707 is now poised to take its proper place on the world's finest circuits.
The DBX707 can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 3.1 seconds and has 707 horsepower and 900 foot-pounds of torque. Due to the car's remarkable design, the drivers of the Official Medical Vehicle of Formula 1® will be able to bring the medics to where they are needed faster than in the past.
Aston Martin's vehicle dynamics engineers were supported in the development of the high-performance DBX707 by the data collected from a professional driver piloting a DBX around Grand Prix circuits.
The use of a new wet clutch transmission allows for much faster gear changes and an upgraded launch capability known as "Race Start" that is prepared to react to the instruction from Race Control. Pirelli, the Formula 1® Global Tyre Partner, delivers specially developed P Zero tyres that add to the car's dynamic feel and accentuate the DBX707's driver-centric characteristics.
As the Official FIA Medical Vehicle, the DBX707 will be extensively transformed and furnished. The required vital equipment, such as fire extinguishers, medical bags, and a defibrillator, each has its own spot in the DBX707, making it easy to check that all items are present. Even though the car will be pushed to its limits on the track, FIA-approved racing seats with six-point harnesses are installed. The passengers will have access to Race Control's communications and will be able to see not just the FIA Marshalling system, but also the biometric data of the F1® drivers and live television footage, enabling an early assessment of any issue.
Roberto Fedeli, the Chief Technology Officer of Aston Martin, stated,
"DBX707 is the ideal vehicle for the crucial role of Official FIA Medical Car of Formula 1®, providing the performance and punch necessary for the world's greatest racing circuits, as well as the flexibility and space required by the sport's officials and medics. This season, we are happy to prolong our partnership with Formula 1® and the FIA, as the pinnacle of racing offers the perfect backdrop for Aston Martin to showcase the capabilities of its ultra-luxury, high-performance vehicles. With the eyes of the world on our products, there is pressure to perform, yet this pressure encourages us to continuously improve. Everyone at Aston Martin is thrilled to see our vehicles used in official capacity at such prestigious events."
The now-familiar sight of the Aston Martin Vantage FIA Safety Car leading the F1® cars on the formation lap will continue in 2023, with a specially-equipped Aston Martin Vantage serving as the Official Formula 1® Safety Car. This one-of-a-kind Vantage, built by the Engineering team at Aston Martin's world-leading sports car design and engineering facility in Gaydon, United Kingdom, is the fastest in its class and is equipped with FIA-specified safety equipment for its crucial role in F1®.
Alan van der Merwe, FIA Medical Car driver said:
"The redesigned FIA Medical Vehicle is a tremendous advancement that ensures our continued competitiveness in the Formula 1® world. It will allow the Medical Car crew to focus on the work at hand and respond rapidly and safely to any deployments on the track. It is excellent to approach a new season well-prepared and equipped."
The Vantage FIA Safety Car, piloted by the very seasoned Bernd Maylander, also has performance data from the several Aston Martin Vantage racing cars that compete yearly throughout the globe. The multiple-championship-winning Vantage continues to dominate the global GT racing scene, and with winning the Rolex 24 at Daytona, the 2023 racing season is off to a terrific start.
The Safety Car is based on Aston Martin's highly sought-after Vantage Formula 1® Edition, which has been a commercial success since its launch in 2021 to celebrate the brand's return to the pinnacle of racing. According to customer research, 72% of Vantage Formula 1® Edition customers had never bought an Aston Martin before, demonstrating the importance of Formula 1® as a cornerstone of Aston Martin's complete brand strategy for acquiring new consumers.
With the Vantage and DBX707 painted in the same iconic Aston Martin Racing Green as the two Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula OneTM Team cars driven by veteran racer Lance Stroll and two-time F1® World Champion Fernando Alonso, they will be difficult to miss this weekend when the 2023 Formula 1® season begins.
