In 2016, when the Chiron, a new generation of Bugatti hyper sports cars, was announced, it was stated that just 500 would ever be produced. Now, after a two-month assembly procedure at the Atelier, the 400th model has been handcrafted at Bugatti Automobiles' headquarters in Molsheim and will be sent to its owner.
It is the result of the efforts of twenty highly trained artisans, who assembled about 1,800 individual components into an unparalleled automobile experience.
As a result of the huge amount of customization choices accessible to clients, it is believed that each Chiron1 will be completely unique. Customers of Chiron may choose from an almost inexhaustible assortment of colours, materials, finishes, unique touches, and accessories, resulting in a breathtaking range of inventiveness. The owner of the 400th Chiron Super Sport2 picked a naked carbon fibre body with a dark green hue.
The President of Bugatti Automobiles, Christophe Piochon, said,
"Every single component of the Chiron is an engineering marvel, and putting it all together demands the most devoted and skilled personnel. The installation of the carbon fibre panels over the sophisticated monocoque chassis needs a degree of accuracy that can only be achieved by the most expert artisans. Our painting or finishing procedure is so meticulous that, in order to create the desired result, up to eight coats of mirror-polished top coat are required. This degree of detail can only be reached with the appropriate combination of passion and competence, and Bugatti is defined by its ability to maintain such a high quality across 400 automobiles and beyond. While commemorating this significant milestone in the history of the Chiron, we extend our deepest thanks to the designers, engineers, and artisans at Bugatti who continue to settle for nothing less than excellence."
The creation of this car's remarkable bare carbon fibre finish requires time and painstaking attention to detail, as well as the experience and unwavering commitment of a team of the industry's most talented designers and materials engineers. The fibre must flow in the right direction across all panels, necessitating that each sheet be sliced at a specified location and in a certain manner. Each panel's weave must also match that of its neighbours to provide a continuous flow over the car's body, so increasing its complexity. Unlike painted carbon fibre, there cannot be any flaws in the material itself; this is not only an unpainted carbon fibre body, but a completely unique construction intended to highlight the material's intrinsic beauty.
The complex dark green tinted body is paired elegantly with Super Sport Magnesium Wheels – lightweight and extremely strong – and an engine cover finished in a subtle "Nocturne" shade, while touches of "Fierce," which blends seamlessly with the tinted carbon fibre panels, are used on a number of exterior details, including the iconic Bugatti Horse Shoe grille, and EB Logo Wheel Caps.
This client has chosen a mix of "Green" and "Beluga Black" leather upholstery for the inside seats. Elsewhere, "Beluga Black" dominates the inside, delicately accented by details such as the naked carbon fibre steering wheel top and bottom and the "Black Anodized" interior trim pieces; an attractive finish that belies the complexity of its production. With the optional Sky View roof, the inside of this Chiron Super Sport is bathed in natural light, illuminating the precise workmanship of every detail.
The Chiron Super Sport is powered by Bugatti's legendary 8.0-liter W16 engine, which produces 1,176 kW/1,600 PS – 100 PS more than the original Chiron of 2016 – owing to a substantial reengineering with enhancements such as a larger quartet of turbochargers. Between 2,000 and 7,000 rpm, a maximum torque of 1,600 Nm is available. The maximum engine speed climbs to 7,100 rpm. In conjunction with the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission's precise shifting, the Chiron Super Sport can reach 300 km/h in 12.1 seconds and 440 km/h at its peak speed.
Only 100 more copies of Bugatti's most recent super sports car will be manufactured, but the manufacturing run of 500 vehicles will not signal the end of the iconic W16 engine. This defining moment in the history of the brand will be capped by two further models. The W16 Mistral3 will be the ultimate Bugatti roadster on the road, while the track-only Bolide4 offers the most authentic W16 engine experience.
