Maybach recently announced the conclusion of its collaboration with the late polymath artist, architect, creative director, fashion designer, and philanthropist Virgil Abloh. The collaboration, which is inspired by the electric showcar Project MAYBACH, culminates in the unveiling of a limited edition Maybach by Virgil Abloh, which coincides with the launch of a capsule collection designed by the late designer in collaboration with OffWhite TM.
150 exclusive modelsThe car, which was developed in collaboration with Mercedes-Benz Group AG Chief Design Officer Gorden Wagener in 2021, was completed before to Virgil Abloh's November death and is offered in a tightly restricted run of 150 vehicles.
Mercedes-Maybach will collaborate with the late fashion designer's Off-White brand on the special-edition Mercedes-Maybach S-Class for the third time.
BespokeThe limited edition Maybach by Virgil Abloh is a Mercedes-Maybach SClass S680 that has been totally customised and handcrafted by Mercedes-most Benz's specialist customisation and craftsmanship team. The exterior includes a one-of-a-kind two-tone colour scheme devised specifically for Project MAYBACH. The car's top portion is lacquered in a glossy obsidian black, while the bottom portion, side sides, and custom forged wheels are painted in a sand hue.
Project GeländewagenPreviously, Abloh collaborated with Mercedes on the Project Geländewagen 2020. The new limited-edition vehicle is inspired by Mercedes' monolithic Project Maybach electric display car, which was developed in collaboration with Abloh and his Off-White fashion business and was reportedly completed before to Abloh's death in November 2021.
Amazing Interiors
The inside has the same two-tone colour scheme as the outside. The four-seat arrangement, steering wheel, doors, lower dashboard, and ceiling are all lined in black and sand Nappa leather, with sand-colored décor accents and stripes. The highpile floormats are black with a sand-colored leather border and are adorned with the Mercedes-Maybach insignia. The window frames are painted, and the piano black centre console, rear seats, head restraints, and door sill panel all feature a distinctive Mercedes-Maybach and Virgil Abloh emblem.
Lucky customers
The proud owners of this beauty of a legacy car will get a bespoke wooden box wrapped in sand-colored Nappa leather and adorned with the Mercedes-Maybach and Virgil Abloh logos. A 1/18 scale model of the limited-edition automobile, two car keys, and a carabiner hook are included in the present box. Additionally, purchasers will get a limited edition vehicle cover sporting the Mercedes-Maybach and Virgil Abloh logos.
Capsule Collaboration
Virgil Abloh collaborated with OffWhiteTM to produce the capsule collection in conjunction with the Project MAYBACH electric showcar. It has sand-colored vintage washed cotton t-shirts and half-brushed cotton fleece crewnecks and hoodies, as well as canvas baseball hats and racing gloves made of canvas, neoprene, and suede that have been covered with a black spray effect and embroidered. The capsule collection is available exclusively online at OffWhiteTM, Farfetch, and Maybach Icons of Luxury, as well as at select OffWhiteTM shops.
Electrified Design
Mercedes-Benz opened the doors of Miami's Rubell Museum in December 2021 as part of Miami Art Week to present Project MAYBACH: a concept automobile showcasing the potential of future electrified design.
Gorden Wagener
"I'm tremendously pleased of the work we've developed in cooperation with Virgil,"
says Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer Mercedes-Benz Group AG. From Project Geländewagen, which established the standard for fashion/automotive partnerships with our classic GClass, to Project MAYBACH, which reimagined the illustrious Mercedes-Maybach history, we genuinely pioneered new ground with Virgil. The limited edition Maybach by Virgil Abloh illustrates the marriage of innovative design and supreme workmanship that is now accessible on the road.
Bettina Fetzer
"Collaborating with Virgil for Project MAYBACH was a unique and exciting journey around Mercedes-Zeitgeist, Benz's co-creation, and modern luxury,"says Bettina Fetzer, Vice President Communications & Marketing Mercedes-Benz AG.
"Creating marketable components for the partnership with Virgil was critical for both sides to further the relationship. We are honoured to introduce the limited edition Maybach by Virgil Abloh and the capsule collection, which provide a genuinely outstanding client experience."
The collaboration with Abloh exemplifies the Mercedes-Maybach brand's commitment to innovation and progression. Mercedes-Maybach will introduce its first fully-electric vehicle to the market in 2023. Sustainability is not just about the propulsion technology used, but also about the materials used to construct the vehicle. Mercedes-Benz develops a recycling concept for each model throughout the development process, in which all components and materials are evaluated for their appropriateness for the different phases of the recycling process. The ultimate objective is to minimise the environmental impact of the materials used to manufacture each Mercedes-Benz automobile.
