Bentayga Hybrid Family Extends With New S & Azure

(Crewe, 28 September 2022)

Bentley is expanding its family of luxury hybrid vehicles with the addition of two new Bentayga models, each with a distinct emphasis but the same extraordinary attention to detail. With the introduction of the new Bentayga S Hybrid and Bentayga Azure Hybrid models, customers can now pick whatever component of the Bentayga's personality they desire to emphasise. Seven out of fourteen Bentley vehicles are now available with a hybrid drivetrain, as a result of the arrival of the two additional models.

The Bentayga Hybrid's V6 gasoline engine, electric motor, and new 18.0 kWh battery give a stunning range of performance, from near-silent, zero-emission EV mode to exhilarating full-throttle acceleration. The sporty styling elements of the Bentayga S Hybrid will undoubtedly entice owners to maximise its combined 462 horsepower. In contrast, the Bentayga Azure Hybrid will offer an oasis of peace and tranquilly for those clients who prioritise wellbeing despite their hectic lifestyles. Both versions are capable of more than 27 miles in zero-emission EV mode, and both give the smooth performance that Bentley customers have become used to.

Bentayga S Hybrid

The new Bentayga S Hybrid follows the launch of the Flying Spur S Hybrid earlier this year, allowing customers to indulge their enthusiasm for sporty performance and striking design while enjoying the numerous benefits of an electric engine on two of Bentley's four-door model lines.

With a combined output of 462 PS (456 bhp), the 3.0-liter TFSI V6 gasoline engine and 100 kW electric motor-generator can propel the Bentayga S Hybrid from 0 to 100 km/h in only 5.3 seconds and on to a peak speed of 158 mph (254 km/h). The hybrid engine accentuates the sense of easy power owing to the electric motor's capacity to provide its entire torque output from zero revolutions per minute.

As with its V8-powered sibling, the Bentayga S, the new Bentayga S Hybrid offers an even more exciting driving experience, with (when in Sport mode) sound upgrades in the engine compartment complimenting the sound of the V6 TFSi and contributing to the car's sportier character for the driver. A 15% increase in chassis damping stiffens the chassis and offers a base for a more aggressive SPORT mode ESC tune, while the S models' exclusive Hybrid Sports Exhaust sends a stirring symphony of sound into the cabin – and can be set differently for front and rear seat passengers.

Design: a forceful declaration of purpose

At first look, the performance-oriented nature of the Bentayga S Hybrid is evident. As with other Bentley S models, the dramatic Blackline option replaces polished metal with matte black on all external brightwork with the exception of the Bentley 'wings' insignia. Black side sills and door mirrors, dark-tinted headlights, a black radiator grille and surround, and a Speed-style front bumper contribute to the aggressive appearance. Unique 22-inch wheels – handled so that the'scythes' point in the same way on both sides of the vehicle – catch the eye, with a choice of silver, black, or black and polished metal finishes that contrast with the red-painted brake callipers of Bentley. At the back, a Speed-style tailgate spoiler, dark-tinted rear lights, and split-oval black tailpipes round off the design.

As a subtle nod to the material's usage in racing, the inside includes a blend of Crewe's impeccably constructed hide and the tactile, nubbed surface of Dinamica. It is available in a variety of colour combinations that have been carefully selected to create a sporty atmosphere inside. Another unique feature is the driver's digital instrumentation, which has 'performance' displays similar to those of the Bentayga Speed together with a PHEV power metre inside the rev counter. Fluted seats, 'S' emblems on the grille, lighted treadplates, and headrests differentiate the 'S' hybrid from its Azure brother.

Bentayga Azure Hybrid

Bentley Azure models, although capable of spectacular performance, prioritise the well-being and comfort of the vehicle's passengers and make every trip, regardless of distance, a pleasurable experience. This is particularly true with the Bentayga Azure Hybrid, whose driver and passengers may enjoy the cabin's acoustic isolation. After leaving the metropolitan area, the 3.0-liter V6 gasoline engine and electric motor continue to provide a quiet, refined driving experience.

Ride comfort and NVH—Noise, Vibration, and Harshness—are the two most significant factors on on-board relaxation. A four-year study of tens of thousands of participants revealed that those exposed to traffic noise over 70 decibels (db) were 65 percent more likely to develop depression. Using the Bentayga EWB as an example, measurements indicate that it is 4 to 26% quieter inside than its rivals, depending on frequency and location inside the vehicle. Secondary ride comfort is another important factor that impacts on-board well-being; the smoother the ride, the more relaxing the flight. At average highway speeds and in the critical frequency range of 5 Hz to 20 Hz, the Bentayga EWB offers up to 27% less secondary ride vibration than its rivals.

The Bentayga Azure Hybrid, like previous Azure models, promotes the well-being of its residents by a mix of design, technology, and handiwork. It is equipped with the Front Seat Comfort Specification, which provides up to 22-way adjustment and a heating and ventilation feature to maintain the optimal body temperature for comfort and alertness.

To analyse and develop Bentley's new concept of "wellbeing behind the wheel," the Azure development team recruited creative neuroscientist Katherine Templar-Lewis from Kinda Studios. Katherine's extensive research on the external factors that influence stress was instrumental in defining the 'wellbeing behind the wheel' concept embodied by the Azure feature suite. Katherine's study, in conjunction with Bentley's own measures, provides a scientific examination of how soothing it is to ride in a Bentley, whether as a driver or a passenger, by analysing the effects of light, patterns, in-car position, and temperature comfort.

The Touring Specification's driver aid features enhance the sensation of safe, tranquil progress and comfortable control. Adaptive Cruise Control* maintains a certain distance from the car in front, slowing down (to a stop, if required) when the vehicle in front does so and resuming the predetermined speed when the lane is clear. Bentley's array of onboard radar and video systems, together with Lane Assist*, Traffic Assist*, and Bentley Safeguard, continuously monitors the surrounding traffic and roadways.

Wellbeing through Design

The value of colour, texture, and touch is clearly understood by the Colour and Trim team at Bentley, whose specification for the Bentayga Azure Hybrid includes "wellness quilting," which provides the aesthetic and tactile delight of carefully produced diamond quilted upholstery. Three open-pore veneers – Dark Walnut, Crown-Cut Walnut, and Koa – provide a tranquil, satin-like shine as alternatives to Bentley's entire range of high-gloss veneers. Customers of the Azure may also choose from 15 hide colours and colour splits, as well as contrast stitching and seat piping at no additional cost. On the fascia, lighted treadplates, and seat embroidery, the Azure insignia may be found. Bentley 'B' foot pedals, mood lighting, and a two-tone steering wheel with a heating function round out the interior features.

Externally, the Bentayga Azure Hybrid includes brilliant chrome lower bumper grilles, Azure badging, 22-inch ten-spoke wheels, and Bentley 'jewel' filler cap. The result is both classic and beautiful.

The process of electrification

The two new Bentayga Hybrid vehicles are the next phase in Bentley's Beyond100 initiative. By 2025, the whole Bentley lineup will be available with hybrid powertrains, corresponding with the introduction of the first Bentley BEV (BEV).

Over ninety percent of consumers use their Bentayga Hybrid daily or many times each week, and over one hundred percent of customers utilise EV mode, with half of them often travelling less than thirty miles. In the transition period to an all-electric vehicle, a hybrid powertrain gives a viable choice to many consumers, allowing them to get acquainted with charge sites and routines without the fear of being unable to complete their route.
