10. Gerard Lopez



Lopez is one of the most prolific investor and capitalist of our time. He famously put money into a video conferencing application back in the day, that is called Skype today. Lopez, 39, own a prolific collection of luxury cars consisting of more than 80 vehicles. Some estimate suggests the collection is worth over $100 million. He is also the chairman of Lotus F1 team which he bought from Renault in 2009. He is a man with impeccable sense when it comes to cars and is a true auto enthusiast. Born in Spain and educated in US, Lopez is fluent in seven languages. He says, “Some people are too afraid to take risks. I’m afraid of not taking them. I’d hate to miss out on something”. His collection includes the likes of Vintage muscles, hot rods, classic Porsche, Bugatti and many more.

He has a thing for Italian made cars with most of his 40 brilliant specimens coming from Italian companies. His collection includes some heavyweights like a Bugatti T35, an Aston Martin LM18, a Ferrari 213 T3, McLaren F1, Porsche 962, and the infamous Ferrari 250 GTO that is valued at more than $20 million.

The Russian mining tycoon is the head of prominent Russian family Lomakov. The family has collected and restored cars since 1964. They opened the Museum of Antique cars and motorcycles with over 120 vehicles in 1999. The most interesting exhibition pieces are 1949 Stalin's rare green ZIS-110 limousine; 1954 Soviet gov. car ZiM (GAZ-12); 1977 Soviet gov. GAZ-13 "Chayka"; 1949 Soviet car GAZ-M20 "Pobeda" among many others. The crown jewel of this collection is the infamous Mercedes-Benz convertible, travelled by none other than one Adolf Hitler during his reign as German chancellor.

The Sultan of Brunei is one of the richest men in the world. Forbes identify him as the richest royal on earth. The sultanate of Brunei is enriched with vast reserves of oil and natural gas. Located off the north eastern shores of Borneo, 29th Sultan Bolkiah has one of the largest collections of cars in the world. Some reports even estimate his collection to include 7000 vehicles including 250 BMWs, 574 Mercedes-Benz, 452 Ferraris and 382 Bentleys. The sultan has a number of special concept cars built exclusively for him such as the Ferrari Mythos, Bentley Java and Porsche Carma. Well, given his $20 billion net worth and owning the largest royal palace in the world with diamond and gold encrusted bathrooms, the cars doesn’t really come as a surprise.


 

4. Ken Lingenfelter


 

Born the son of a General Motors executive, Ken grew up with a lust and appreciation for stylish, high-performance automobiles. Finding success in the real estate settlement industry, Ken bought his first Corvette in 1977. Additional cars were acquired, as his passion for performance cars grew. Having sold his company, he has dedicated himself to assembling a collection of significant muscle cars, Corvettes, and exotic European cars from around the world. (Ken Lingenfelter, n.d.) He currently owns around 150 vehicles which includes rare Lamborghinis, Corvettes, Mustangs and Porsches. The collection is housed in a 40,000 square foot garage in his Michigan house.

 


 

3. The Rainbow Sheikh


 

Sheikh Hamad Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, a member of the Royal family of Abu Dhabi, has earned the nickname of “Rainbow Sheikh” because of his magnificent car collection that is enough to knock anyone off their feet. The name “Rainbow Sheik” comes from the fact that he owns seven Mercedes S-Class vehicles, each one in a different colour of the rainbow. He has also customized Mercedes monster trucks into enormous cars, a slew of Jeeps for the largest Bedouin Caravan, a Dodge Power Wagon, and whatever sensational cars he can find to match his larger than life personality. His garage is inside an actual ancient pyramid.

 

 

2. Jay Leno


 

Comedian and former host of popular TV Tonight show’s host Jay Leno is a man of knowledge when it comes to cars. He hosted shows on cars titled Jay Leno’s garage. His collection has some of the most rare and vintage cars in the world. The collection has more than 200 vehicles including a perfectly maintained 1909 Baker Electric, a 1931 eight-litre Bentley, a 1909 Stanley Steamer, a 1934 Phantom II from Rolls-Royce, a 1927 Duesenberg Model X, and a 1925 Hispano-Suiza. He also owns 22 steam-powered vehicles and 25 classic race cars. His collection is estimated around a whopping $350 million.

 

 

 

 

1. Rodger Dudding


 

British businessman Rodger Dudding started his collection in 1960s with Jensen Interceptor FF. Today at the age of 79, his collection boasts of around 350 cars and he is planning to expand with a plan of spending GBP 7 million in developing his new garage. His collection includes a 1952 Morris Minor that his father purchased and Mr. Dudding says his love for cars began with it. His car collection has some unusual models in it, including 24 Lagonda, a rare and unpopular Aston Martin of which only 645 were made. The oldest car in Rodger’s collection is a 1911 Vulcan Tourer. His collection is largest in Britain with valuations over $50 million.
