Bindu by Shanti Banaras is a Contemplation on The Beginnings of Energy & Existence

The new BINDU line by Shanti Banaras was inspired by the artist SH Raza's research of the Bindu. The collection is about the flow of energy inside all living things, which is as vast as the cosmos and repeated in every individual.

By SHANTI Banaras, BINDU

This line of lehengas by Shanti Banaras reimagines the spiritual imagery that became the heart of the artist's imagination after SH Raza's study of The Bindu. In the investigation of circles, triangles, and lines comes a reflection on the origin of energy and creation. In Raza's work, this is perceived as order and proportion, whereas in Shanti Banaras' handwoven Rangkat organza, it is viewed as a one moment in a life filled with many others.

The earliest Indian scientists analysed the earth's centrifugal force, known as a Bindu, and associated it to the life force inside us; a point that is both the origin and purpose of life. This series celebrates the Bindu as the focal point of a labyrinth of geometric patterns and abstract landscapes. Patterns are, in Raza's words, "visible form embodying all the key requirements of line, tone, colour, texture, and space." The world's greatest philosophers Pythagoras, Plato, and Plotinus expressed their creativity via these same timeless symbols, with each intersection reflecting on life and death. Earth and sky are the fundamental essence of existence when seen as a whole.

Our earliest knowledge identifies the Bindu and its holy geometry as the blueprint for all creation, while also describing the energy patterns that unite all things. It is believed that any natural development or movement pattern may be reduced to one or more geometric forms. All living forms, including the molecules of our DNA, the cornea of our eyes, snowflakes, flower petals, crystals, a shell, the stars, the galaxy we spiral inside, and the oxygen we breathe, are composed of geometric codes. According to Khushi Shah, Creative Director of Shanti Banaras, "The beauty of The Bindu is that it simplifies the age-old conundrum of what supports life." In festivities when lehengas are worn, this symbolism is a potent prayer for a fresh start. This collection gives the lehenga a contemporary appearance and feel while adding a traditional perspective to SH Raza's patterns.

In its flagship boutiques, 'Bindu' by Shanti Banaras is displayed inside custom-made installations. The line has luxurious zari embroidery in Rangkat's bold oranges, yellows, and lime greens.
