Breguet, a Swiss luxury watchmaker, unveiled the Reine de Naples 9835 and 9838 wristwatches, which have distinct styles but share a minutes hand that varies in form as it moves around the dial. The Reine de Naples collection is inspired by the first wristwatch, which was handed to Caroline Murat, Queen of Naples and sister of Napoleon, in 1812.
The shape of the minutes hand on the dials of two new models may change depending on its placement on the dial's extended surface. Breguet invented this patent-protected, innovative system. The variable-length minutes hand is composed of two arms that are joined at one end but otherwise operate independently.
A sequence of gears alters the shape of these arms. At 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock, where it is stretched and then more rounded, respectively, the hand interacts with the dial by leaving distinct imprints. This device features an oval camera on its rear. As the minutes go, each arm's tempo fluctuates. Constantly changing to its path around the dial, the size of the hand fits beautifully to the watch's proportions.
The white gold case of the Reine de Naples 9835 contrasts with its midnight blue mother-of-pearl dial. This watch's flange, bezel, and lugs are decorated with 161 diamonds. Its crown is embellished with a diamond with a briolette-cut, and the folding clasp has 28 diamonds.
The time is shown via a hole in the dial's centre. The silver-toned minutes numerals are offset with a font that suggests hand-drawn designs. This timepiece's bracelet is made of alligator leather. The watch is launched in a limited edition of twenty pieces.
The midnight blue alligator strap of the Reine de Naples 9838 clock contrasts with its white lacquered display. Blue sapphires embellish the bezel, flange, and crown of its white gold case. The Arabic numerals seem to grow and shrink intermittently, as does the minutes hand.
In its 36.5 x 28.45 mm oval case, the 78A0 self-winding movement is powered by 252 components oscillating at 3.5 Hz. This mechanism has a silicon-based balance spring and an in-line Swiss lever escapement, a material endowed with several properties.
The white gold case's sapphire back displays the movement's platinum oscillating weight, as well as the Côtes de Genève pattern and beveling. Since the end of the eighteenth century, the gold rim of each Breguet watch has been etched with its unique serial number.
