ASOS plc is a British online fashion and beauty company. The firm was started in 2000 in London, mostly targeted at young people. The website offers over 850 brands as well as its own collection of apparel and accessories, and delivers to all 196 countries from fulfilment hubs in the UK, USA and Europe.
Asos has recently announced the hiring of José Antonio Ramos Calamonte as chief executive officer and Jgøren Lindemann as chair.
Commenting on the new appointment, Ian Dyson, departing chair of Asos, said: “José is the perfect person to lead Asos through the next phase of expansion. Since he joined the firm, José has made an important impact, pushing transformation across our commercial function and bringing fresh energy and passion to the fundamental product and trade activities of the business.”
Incoming CEO Calamonte joins Asos from prominent Portuguese fashion firm, Salsa Jeans, where he held the post of chief executive officer for over two years. He is an experienced worldwide retailer, with an 18-year career spanning brands like Inditex, Esprit, and Carrefour Spain, having began his career at McKinsey.
Jørgen Lindemann, who joined the Asos board as a non-executive director on November 1, 2021, will become chair, following Ian Dyson, with effect from August 1, 2022, when Dyson will leave down.
Lindemann, the firm added, has considerable expertise in leading digital-first companies. In addition to his work on the Asos board, he is now the chair of Miinto, the Danish-based online fashion marketplace and a board member of Bambuser AB.
He is the former president and CEO of Modern Times Group, the Sweden-based digital entertainments firm and recently stepped down from the board of Zalando after five-years as a non-executive director.
“Jørgen Lindemann has made a major impact since joining the board of Asos last year and I am glad that he will step up to accept the chair job and facilitate a smooth transition when Ian Dyson stands down,” stated Patrick Kennedy, senior independent non-executive director of Asos.
