Developing Braille Menus for Guests With Visual Impairment - A Model Approach by The Visakhapatnam Novotel Varun Beach

Visakhapatnam, December 1st, 2023:

Novotel Visakhapatnam Varun Beach, an esteemed affiliate of the Accor organisation, acclaims the introduction of Braille menus as a revolutionary step towards greater inclusivity. This momentous development, which was unveiled at the esteemed Indian specialty establishment Zaffran, designates the hotel as a trailblazer in Andhra Pradesh, promoting universal equality and empowerment.

Distinguished individuals, such as Dr. Vishwamitra, HOD of Ophthalmology at the District Blindness Control Society in Visakhapatnam, and dignitaries from Andhra Medical College and Varun Group, attended the auspicious inauguration ceremony.

Asserting that each person feels valued and accepted, our guiding principle is to promote inclusiveness, as stated by Mrs. Lakshmi Sridhar, general manager of the Accor-managed Novotel Visakhapatnam Varun Beach and The Bheemili Resort.

Dr. G. Butchi Raju, Principal of Andhra Medical College, Dr. Allu Padmaja, Head of DREH, and Dr. Vasupalli Ravi, HOD, Anaesthesia & CCM, KGH, were among the distinguished guests at the occasion. The introduction of the Braille menu elicited profound delight among patrons with visual impairments, as it empowered them to autonomously peruse and place their selections.

This innovative action highlights the commitment of Novotel Visakhapatnam Varun Beach to cultivating a hospitality sector atmosphere that is more welcoming and inclusive. Braille menus represent not only a menu but also an avenue through which the visually impaired can attain autonomy and empowerment.

Furthermore, Mrs. Lakshmi Prabhu Kishore, Director of Varun Group, attended the event, highlighting the organization's dedication to promoting diversity and inclusivity. In fulfilment of this dedication, Novotel Visakhapatnam Varun Beach maintains a workforce of six visually impaired individuals spanning multiple departments.

By being present at the event and taking pleasure in perusing the Braille menu and placing their orders, two of these exceptional staff members represented the success of inclusiveness in action.
