Emma Watson has recently strengthened the board of French luxury fashion group Kering as a director. The environment conscious actress and activist has also been given the responsibility of chairing the Kering board’s sustainability committee. Kering owns luxury fashion brands like Gucci, Balenciaga and Alexander McQueen and happens to be one of the top two global fashion groups along with LVMH.
Emma Watson has been included as a member to the governing body at Kering Group. The French luxury conglomerate gives a lot of importance to sustainability as part of its luxury business. The Paris headquartered Kering Group is one of the biggest luxury fashion players in the world and has some of the most promiment fashion brands, jewelry, watches and leather goods under its belt including Gucci, Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen, Brioni, Pomellato, Boucheron, Dodo, Bottega Veneta, Balenciaga, Qeelin, Ulyss Nardin, Girard-Perregaux and Kering Eyewear.
The Harry Potter actress will sit on the sustainability board of trustees that supervises the top luxury brands such as Alexander McQueen, Gucci, Bottega Veneta, and Saint Laurent.
Watson has for quite some time been an advocate for sustainability in the fashion business. She has also worn recycled dresses on red carpet events of several top-notch events, since many years to set an example for the industry and being an influencer for a noble cause called sustainability.
Watson has been a supporter of ‘Good on You’, an application that assesses the effect a brand has on nature. In a meeting with Vogue a year ago she revealed her enthusiasm for ethical fashion. She said in the interview that influencers and celebrities are often asked not about “what” they are wearing but “who” they are wearing. She revealed that the label, collection, brand is perceived to be more meaningful than the dress itself. Watson emphasized on the fact that there is a larger side to the story, it is what impact that piece of cloth have had on the entire community, how unethically or ethically the resources have been sourced and in what conditions were those clothes were made.
Her appointment at Kering comes when the style business needs to roll out some significant improvements. Not just has the abuse of the cloth manufacturing laborers been brought to the front line during the COVID-19 pandemic, the glaring absence of decent variety that prompts untrustworthy practices has likewise been highlighted during the Black Lives Matter development. It appears to be likely that Watson will attempt to help move the brands she's working with to have less of an effect on individuals as well as the planet.
Watson's appointment date at the Kering matched with two other eminent individuals, Tidjane Thiam, previous CEO of Credit Suisse Group and Jean Liu, the president of Didi Chuxin.
