The new Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet and Royal Oak collections convey a powerful statement, exemplified by Serena Williams, the Manufacture's spokesperson and a woman who expresses herself without compromise and with passion.
EMBODIED AND INSPIRED BY SERENA WILLIAMS
Over the last two decades, Serena Williams has had a phenomenal impact on the sports, fashion, and cultural worlds. She is an entrepreneur, a designer, a change agent, a mother, and an enduring brand ambassador, in addition to being a Tennis Champion. Her unyielding ambition, passion, and rule-breaking mentality, which closely connect with Audemars Piguet's principles, have allowed her to achieve extraordinary professional milestones while inspiring people all over the globe.
SPARKLES WITH 1,085 DIAMONDS
Inspired by the unique quality of light in Le Brassus, the watchmakers at the Manufacture have produced a new Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet. This 18-karat white or pink gold clock measuring 41 mm is adorned with 1,085 (4.99 carats) precious stones on the dial, the architectural case, the lugs, and the fluted crown. The inner bezel shows a graded, five-by-five minute scale around the dial's rim. Due to this polished watch, each wrist movement gleams with diamond brilliance.
REINVENTION OF THE WATCH'S ICONICAL TAPISSÉRIE
Since the unveiling of the first women's Royal Oak created by Jacqueline Dimier in 1976, the Royal Oak has been clothed in novel materials and accepted almost all complexities – both major and tiny – as a symbol of freedom and avant-garde.
This year, Audemars Piguet combines its expertise with the creativity of Florentine jeweller Carolina Bucci, the inventor of the enticing Frosted Gold finish introduced on Royal Oak models in 2016, to produce a 34 mm Royal Oak Selfwinding limited edition.
This limited-edition black ceramic watch has a multicoloured face that reflects light like a prism's rainbow in the dark.
Microstructuring has been used to draw tiny squares onto the surface of a sapphire disc in order to achieve this dazzling Tapisserie effect. A metallising technique performed to the rear of the sapphire plate accentuates reflections and colours to produce the mirror illusion.
This is the first time Audemars Piguet has used this method, which makes each dial a one-of-a-kind work of art due to the varying distribution of iridescent colours. Audemars Piguet's signature appears discretely in white transfer, allowing the play of colour to take centre stage. The glowing pink gold hands indicate the hours, minutes, and seconds, while the hour-markers reflect the eight screws of the iconic octagonal bezel.
I wanted to incorporate a rainbow in the most unexpected locations, as when you see oil floating on a city street puddle... Therefore, every colour in the spectrum is represented on a canvas that is entirely black, which represents the absence of colour.
