The world of luxury, luxury fashion and even slow fashion is witnessing some major commitments and action by companies towards achieving sustainability.
Toast, a Slow fashion and lifestyle brand located in the United Kingdom, has recently announced that it will reduce its collection production by 20% compared to prior seasons as part of its road map to sustainability. Toast notes in its annual Social Conscience report that has achieved "substantial progress" in achieving its long-term sustainability targets in 2020 and 2021, notably by scaling back its collections in order to focus on long-lasting and low-impact items.
Additionally, a reduction in the number of collection drops from six to four is on the company's sustainability strategy, as part of its mission to transform purchasing patterns and advocate for quality and longevity. It states that this change resulted in increased sell-through and waste reduction. Toast will also produce 20% fewer styles than in prior seasons in order to maximise sell-through and avoid surplus goods and discounting.
Increased Usage of Organic Cotton
Toast is also making an effort to use organic cotton whenever feasible. Currently, 29% of its cotton womenswear is organic, and cotton contributes for 70% of all materials used in its 2021 collection. It intends to expand this to 80% by 2023.
Toast boosts its garment repair and exchanging programmes
Additionally, it has increased its sustainability efforts, like its free repair service Toast Renewal, by investing in a larger staff of repair professionals to work out of six regional Renewal shops in Bath, Edinburgh, Oxford, and around London. Toast has fixed 914 things since its inception, and over 7,000 people have attended one of its virtual repair seminars.
Toast also operates a clothes swap programme called Toast Circle, which has successfully extended the life of over 2,000 articles, and consumers in the United Kingdom may return their footwear to the manufacturer for a sole replacement via the 'Soling Replacement Service.'
More About Toast
TOAST began with loungewear and nightwear, which were developed in a Welsh farmhouse. Founded in 1997 by James and Jessica Seaton, the collections expressed an air of relaxation and a slower, more deliberate pace of living. TOAST makes and curates simple, useful, attractive clothes, homeware, and editorial today, directed by Suzie de Rohan Willner.
TOAST has locations throughout the United Kingdom and can be found in concept stores throughout the United States and Europe. With studios in London and Swansea, TOAST continues to design and create all collections in-house and is proud to be one of the few fashion businesses to have its own full pattern room – lined with calico toiles and stocked with pins, papers, chalks, and spools of thread, it is a genuine maker's space.
