Four Seasons Hotel Shenzhen Announces Partnership With Two of China's Premier Cultural Centres For Contemporary Art: Ucca and Sea World

This summer, in collaboration with UCCA, China's premier institution for contemporary art, and Shenzhen's very own Sea World Culture and Arts Center, the Four Seasons Hotel Shenzhen will become even more attuned to the youthful, vibrant atmosphere of its exciting city home. The cooperation commemorates the work of Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan, and includes a Cattelan-inspired Afternoon Tea and tickets to his most recent show. The hotel is situated in Futian, the primary business centre of Shenzhen.

The culinary team at Four Seasons Hotel Shenzhen, led by Executive Pastry Chef Mary Liu, has developed their own pieces of Cattelan-inspired art in the shape of a spectacular and experimental Maurizio Cattelan: Wish You Were Here Afternoon Tea. Daddy, Daddy (2008) – and the morello cherry cheesecake, with a dazzling golden frosting resembling the valuable metal-plated footwear in Cattelan's Untitled (2019). The banana chocolate cake and chestnut apricot cake with grey icing "tape" depict the infamous banana Catalan that was tied to a wall with duct tape at the Art Basel Miami Beach art festival. "Fruit symphony" is a spectacular study of shape and colour, consisting of red, yellow, and black berries, jellies, and molecular gastronomy, while the bamboo charcoal scone is a remarkable edible black block served with mascarpone cream and handmade passion fruit and mango jam.

Nicholas Liang, general manager of the Four Seasons Hotel Shenzhen, remarks, "We take great satisfaction in our trendy position in one of the most interesting sections of a global metropolis." This partnership exemplifies our dedication to providing our visitors with the finest experiences possible. We believe that art is an integral part of luxury, particularly in Shenzhen, the most youthful and vibrant city in China, and we're happy to bring the two together on such a huge scale."

Cattelan is recognised for his sharp observation of society and humorous study of human connections. He is considered "one of the most popular and controversial painters working today." Maurizio Cattelan's latest exhibition, Wish You Were Here, which opens this summer in Shenzhen, features more than 20 artworks – including sculptures, murals, site-specific installations, and a performance – that explore a wide range of thought-provoking themes, from the ways in which love, fate, and consumerism affect our lives to questions of identity and relationships. In addition to a themed room key card and an art-inspired gift, hotel guests will get an invitation to remain tuned for in-room demonstrations of creativity. Consult the Hotel staff to schedule a visit to Cattelan's innovative exhibition or hotel experience.

Regarding UCCA

The UCCA Center for Contemporary Art is the premier centre for contemporary art in China. Committed to delivering the greatest in art to a larger audience, UCCA offers a variety of exhibits, public activities, and research projects to over one million people annually at three venues. UCCA Beijing is located in the 798 Art District, occupying 10,000 square metres (100,000 square feet) of manufacturing chambers constructed in 1957 and revitalised by OMA in 2019. The Open Architecture-designed UCCA Dune is buried under the sand in the Beidaihe beach community of Aranya.

In May of 2021, SO – IL, a New York-based architectural studio, launched UCCA Edge in Shanghai. In 2018, the Beijing Cultural Bureau formally authorised UCCA as a museum. UCCA also maintains non-profit foundations registered by the Beijing Bureau of Civil Affairs and the Hong Kong government. UCCA's commercial endeavours consist of the retail platform UCCA Store, the children's education programme UCCA Kids, and the partnerships and projects under the UCCA Lab umbrella. The UCCA, which opened in 2007 and was revitalised in 2017 by a determined group of Chinese and foreign benefactors, aims to integrate China into the global conversation via contemporary art.

Regarding the Sea World Culture and Art Center

The Sea World Culture and Arts Center (SWCAC) in Shekou, Shenzhen, is a centre for culture and business founded by China Merchants Shekou and the Victoria & Albert Museum of London. SWCAC is devoted to providing the public with a range of cultural experiences via hybrid forms such as exhibits, performing arts, public education, and commerce. As the only structure in China built by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Fumihiko Maki to date, SWCAC integrates the surrounding sea, mountains, and city.

The Greater Bay Area of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Guangdong-Hong Macau's Kong-Macau Bay Area's SWCAC, which opened in December 2017, has become a prominent cultural monument. Lonely Planet named it 2019's Top Gallery in Shenzhen, while Time magazine named it one of the World's 100 Greatest Places in 2018.

More than one million people attended SWCAC's 48 exhibits and approximately 200 educational programmes in 2021, including Leandro Erlich: The Confines of the Great Void, The Mythical Animals in the Forbidden City, Gaetano Pesce: Nobody's Perfect, and Fashioned from Nature.
