Globally Renowned Belgian Architect, Jean-Michel Gathy Rethinks The Eagerly Awaited Aman New York

Jean-Michel Gathy, the world famous Belgian architect and designer, was selected to develop America's first urban Aman Resort, Aman New York.

The upmarket hotel in New York, located at the junction of 57th Street and Fifth Avenue inside the city's historic Crown Building, will open on August 2, 2022; bookings will be available beginning on July 25, 2022.

Jean-Michel Gathy merges the historic architectural grandeur of the 100-year-old Beaux-Arts edifice with Aman's design language. The designer applies the distinctively Asian technique of 'layering' spaces and lighting and uses organic, natural materials to create a feeling of balance and harmony evocative of Eastern Aman resorts.

There will be 83 apartments and 22 branded homes in Aman New York. Custom double-pivot doors provide an open-plan arrangement, which was inspired by the design of Aman's Southeast Asian resorts. Not only are the hotel's suites among the biggest in New York, but they also have a working fireplace, a first for New York City. 

The extravagant bathrooms include oval soaking tubs, marble rain showers, and dual vanities.

The hotel has a premier Aman Spa. It provides a comprehensive selection of wellness-enhancing amenities, including a 20-meter indoor swimming pool bordered by fire pits and daybeds. Two expansive Spa Houses have double treatment rooms, Banya and Hammam rooms, and private outdoor terraces with hot and cold plunge pools, daybeds, and fireplaces, equivalent to those of Aman's most isolated resorts, for those wanting an immersive wellness experience.

The fourteenth story contains unique social rooms. The Garden Terrace connects Arva, Aman's convivial Italian restaurant, with Nama, Aman's interpretation of Japan's washoku eating tradition, and the Wine Library. The retractable glass top of the 650-square-meter outdoor area with reflected ponds and fire pits provides year-round access. The exclusive Jazz Club features world-class live performances and serves as a nightly meeting spot.

In addition to following in the footsteps of Aman Tokyo, the brand's first urban property, which opened in 2014, the hotel also marks the beginning of a new chapter for Aman by introducing the very first urban branded homes. A collection of 22 exceptional private houses, including a five-story penthouse, the fully serviced apartments give an unrivalled address and a total immersion in the Aman lifestyle, in sync with the ever-present pulse of their environment.
