Homage by Anita Dongre - Every Garment is Honoured by its Wearer

Homage by Anita Dongre is a celebration of a fundamental principle - the understanding that every clothing is honoured by its wearer. Anita Dongre's 'Homage' is a shape-shifting and inclusive homage to a rich architectural heritage that was inspired by traditional art and architecture and designed for a muse who resists the urge to either conform to or break free from society expectations. The collection reinterprets themes and particulars from a variety of crafts and methods, such as Bandhini and Benarasi.

"Homage" highlights alchemical patterns and designs that transcend time. Serena Jethmalani, a young attorney whose interest is at the confluence of law and human rights, brings to life the juxtaposed curves of architecture and their linear historical ruin. Tiana Taraporvala models the geometry and colour play of old tiles using music as a means to evoke an emotional catharsis in the listeners of her storytelling. Sara Tendulkar, who has a strong love for biosciences research, casts a bright light on etchings that convey neglected yet unique tales.

She has contributed to the creation of skincare goods for a multinational corporation by using her organisational abilities and perceptive nature. Rhea Kuruvilla, recognising that the art industry is largely dominated by men, has made it her mission to advocate harder for female-identifying South Asian artists, curators, and critics; it is her energy that brings this collection of works inspired by tangible reminders of past lives - both documented and undocumented - into the present.

Alaviaa Jaaferi, a fashion influencer and businesswoman, uses her allure to emphasise the ephemeral nature of time - in architecture and human will. In each shot item, the model has selected pieces to personalise and customise her lehenga, a service long appreciated by Anita Dongre brides.

Anita Dongre's tales of craftsmanship and personalised services, which include customization, give each item a one-of-a-kind touch. Incorporating a unique hue, a shared-meaning phrase or passage of literature, or any other aspect that personalises a piece for its wearer has enhanced the significance of the event for which each lehenga is selected. The incorporation of a bride's personal tale into a unique design gives each item a distinct location in time. In "Homage," the ancient and the modern walk hand in hand into the light.

Shot in the breathtaking Six Senses Fort Barwara in Rajasthan, 'Homage' by Anita Dongre showcases handpainted Pichwai, iconic gota patti, handwoven benarasi, and bandhani, in a vibrant colour palette of forest greens, blush pinks, fiery reds, sunset purples, and calm creams and blues.

"Six Senses Fort Barwara was a perfect option for this exhibition because to their shared dedication to sustainability, appreciation of local craft, and community. Each of these intricately-detailed lehengas reveals a distinct tale of craft and culture", according to the designer. "We collaborated with skilled craftspeople to replicate iconic patterns in a variety of crafts and hues, and we photographed young ladies who are so profoundly their own people. All of this is set against the stunning background of Six Senses Fort Barwara, a 14th-century fort that has been rebuilt with great care via extensive conservation efforts. The design of the 700-year-old Six Senses Fort Barwara in Rajasthan reinterprets the gracious and royal atmosphere of a bygone period" She adds further.

This exclusive collection of lehengas, sarees, ghararas is available at Anita Dongre flagship stores and online (https://www.anitadongre.com/).
