The property that Anita and Parag purchased in Bangalore's Koramangala neighbourhood is a contemporary, minimalist, verdant sanctuary. While pursuing the acquisition of a property, their ideas and intentions were crystal apparent.
"We wanted to design a contemporary, minimalist house with just the necessary amenities to represent our personality as nature lovers and photographers,"
says the pair, whose four-month-long endeavour resulted in the construction of their home.
Clearly, minimalism was the driving force behind the design of the home. This condominium is a mid-sized complex with around 250 units in the centre of Koramangala, Bangalore's premier residential district. Koramangala is renowned for its verdant landscape and cosmopolitan flavour. In brief, it is a great environment for individuals of all ages, origins, and cultures.
Parag and Anita fell for the condominium.
"As soon as we first arrived, we fell in love with it due to the vast expanse of greenery and many parks around it. The pair said that their goal was to "convey the abundant foliage, many hues of green, the sunshine, and the wind that we experienced during our tour inside the home.
One enters a "green paradise" when entering their home. The home overlooks a flourishing garden that is a sea of all colours of green. Anita and Parag did not want to miss even a single millimetre of greenery and wildlife. Their favourite colour is green, therefore the outdoor furniture on their balcony, which consists of a set of two folding chairs, a round table, and another comfort chair, is upholstered in green fabrics and the round table is stained green. This compliments the modest garden on the balcony and overlooks the expansive green park next to the condominium.
The residence is surrounded by vegetation on all sides, and Parag took the initiative to plant a dozen blooming trees around the campus's perimeter and to water, nourish, and fence the seedlings to ensure their survival. Parag Kulkarni, Senior Vice President – International and President - A. O. Smith India, exclaims, "I am ecstatic that a couple of them are already blooming and have developed so much over the last four years."
This sleek and minimalist house in Bangalore was created by Parag Kulkarni and his wife Anita Parag Kulkarni. (Parag Kulkarni is International Senior Vice President and President of A. O. Smith India).
The name "oasis" came to mind when they walked up to level 3 during the early stages of the project, when there were no barriers surrounding. It seemed obvious that "Oasis of Green" would be theirs. The pair selected blooming trees and planted them across the campus in such a way that various trees would bloom at different times, creating a potentially rich experience throughout the year. Anita and Parag said that they done this to promote a healthy ecological balance for birds to come and nest.
How was the layout conceived and What was the design's source of inspiration?
They designed the room with a modern, minimalist, earth-toned style and made just one major/minor alteration. They have an east-facing balcony that overlooks a garden. Originally, however, there were side walls on both sides of the French doors. This was restricted since it not only obstructed a complete view of the garden, but it also prevented the morning dawn, light, and wind from freely entering the home. Therefore, they removed the side walls and widened the French doors. The result was remarkable. As soon as you enter the home, you are greeted with a "Oasis of Green." The view is captivating from the entryway, the kitchen, and the dining room. Each section of the main hall and kitchen offers a distinctive perspective of the garden and sky.
What is a prominent trend that has emerged?
Subtle earth tones and organic shapes. The centre table, the solid edge console at the entry, or the solid edge side table, as well as vases from Germany and Moreno glass, etc., all have organic shapes and serve as discussion pieces in various rooms of the home.
The pair adores "earth tones," therefore the home, in addition to being green, has "earth tones" with "Indian Walnut" veneer and wood-toned furnishings. Anita and Parag, who have gathered artefacts on their trips from as far-flung locales as Kashmir and Germany, claim that these items are pleasing to the sight and are a reflection of their personalities and lives. Moreover, they all compliment one another in their home.
