Inspired By The Red-crowned Cranes Indian Fashion Collection Revival by Archana Jaju is Delightfully Exquisite

Archana Jaju’s latest collection “Revival” draws inspiration from the red-crowned cranes, a bird species that is symbolic of grace, beauty and inextinguishable life. At the turn of the 20th century there were less than 20 of these birds in the wild, and yet today these birds' number close to a thousand- the story of their resurgence is one of human desire and nature’s response, a partnership that echoes across truths in 2021. Archana Jaju’s collection of formal and ready to wear Indian designs channels this bird’s delicacy and indomitable strength through intricate embroidery and tranquil colour pallets.

Considered sacred by some, these cranes live as symbols of fidelity in marriage, good luck, long life and love- the bird of happiness. Nicknamed ballerinas, the cranes sing duets with their mates, swooping and diving on enormous, graceful wings, as they pirouette on their long legs. Celebrating their existence is a reminder of the human spirit.

The deeply intertwined and inseparable connection to nature has been commemorated through the use of natural dyes and hand embroidery. In extension to this thought, the colour palette consists of earthy pastels offset by the use of fabrics like chanderi and organza. Tantalizing embellishments of thread, sequins, and mirror work display these cranes in their form as nature’s ballerinas. Together, these elements create pieces of elegance and exuberance mirroring the birds they draw inspiration from.

This collection is an amalgamation of steadfastness, perseverance and resilience. It is inspired by the spirit of young, professional and independent Indian women, and it features formal and ready-to-wear Indian designs.

Says designer Archana Jaju, “Kalamkari is an art form that has always been close to my heart, and has consistently been a part of a number of my collections. Showcasing it with such a beautiful theme in mind, and with a more diverse colour palette, is what makes this collection all the more special”
