This new Reverso Tribute Duoface Calendar from Jaeger-LeCoultre is a reimagining of two of the brand's complications: the triple calendar and the Duoface. Although icons evolve with time, their essential nature does not. Many updates have been made to the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso throughout the years, but one thing they all have in common is an increased mechanical performance and sturdy build. The Reverso's success since its introduction in 1931 may be attributed to its unique ability to strike a balance between stability and versatility.
MODERN YET EVERGREEN
Two of Jaeger-most LeCoultre's storied complications, the triple calendar and the Duoface, are given a fresh, modern spin in the brand's new Reverso Tribute Duoface Calendar. For the latter, an oblong calibre was introduced in 1994 to power a single movement calibre that displays two time zones on opposing sides of the Reverso.
The Reverso Tribute Duoface Calendar honours the original 1931 model while also incorporating modern design principles into the watch. New to this edition are two variations, one in cool stainless steel and the other in cosy rose gold. Both models include enhanced detailing, superior craftsmanship, and nuanced textures.
Watchmakers at Jaeger-in-house LeCoultre's ateliers in Le Sentier, where their skill is built on over two centuries of experience, have refined a wide range of calendar features. The new Reverso Tribute Duoface Calendar boldly displays the triple calendar, a time-honored feature that includes day, date, and month markers. These solar-based signals are joined by a moon phase display at six o'clock, bringing together two aspects of the celestial time universe on the same dial.
Caution and understated textures take centre stage in the steel prototype. The tone-on-tone colouring scheme adds the highest refinement, and the alternating surface treatments, such as polished hands set against a grained dial, ensure that all indications are readable at a glance. The rose gold model's radiance is complemented by the sunrayed dial treatment, its silvery tones bringing out the difference in colour between the hands and hour markers.
The revised verso dial of the steel and rose gold Reverso Tribute Duoface Calendar is distinguished by fewer surface finishing processes and an increased sense of spaciousness. A sunrayed finish emerging from the same point as the hour and minute hands replaces the traditional Clous de Paris guillochage that would normally decorate the outside portion of the dial. The new hour markers, which have been moved to the minuterie's outside, further emphasise this expansive radial picture. Subtly conveying information about the second time zone, a day-night indication has been put underneath the hour-and-minute counter at the 6 o'clock position.
FORGING A HISTORY
A partnership that started in 2011 is perpetuated with the 2017 Reverso Tribute Duoface Calendar. Casa Fagliano, an Argentinean atelier known for its polo boots, has gained international fame for its commitment to traditional craftsmanship and perfection, values that will resonate with Jaeger-LeCoultre fans.
Straps for the steel version of the Reverso Tribute Duoface Calendar are a deep blue, while those for the rose gold version are a brown that is reminiscent of leather. To emphasise the subtle differences in character between the steel and rose gold Reverso Tribute Duoface Calendars, each comes with a complementary deployant clasp and a pin buckle, respectively. Each design also has a leather and cloth strap in tones that call to mind the patina of vintage equestrian gear, transporting the wearer to the sophisticated and quick-paced world of polo. Jaeger-quick-change LeCoultre watches include a strap and buckle connection system that makes it easy to switch between different straps.
The Reverso Tribute Duoface Calendar is powered by the hand-wound calibre 853, which represents Jaeger-commitment LeCoultre's to high quality watchmaking. Calibre 853 is a form movement, one of the few mechanical breakthroughs designed for a non-circular watch case. Because of its small size, the calibre 853 fits inside the classic case dimensions of the Reverso Tribute Duoface Calendar without compromising any of the hallmarks of fine horlogerie. These include chamfered edges, countersunk jewels, mirror-polished screws, and Geneva Stripe-decorated bridges. It's all hidden from view, but the final performance of the watch is made possible by the Manufacture Jaeger-rich LeCoultre's accumulated expertise.
