IWC Schaffhausen Launches New Portugieser Automatic and Portugieser Chronograph Models With Contrasting White & Blue Dials

Schaffhausen, 15 August 2022: IWC Schaffhausen unveils new versions of the Portugieser Automatic and the Portugieser Chronograph, two of the collection's most popular models. Both watches have stainless steel casings, white and blue dials with a chapter ring resembling a railroad track, blue Arabic numerals, and blued feuille hands. The Portugieser Automatic is equipped with an IWC-manufactured 52010 movement with a 7-day power reserve and a blue alligator leather strap. The Portugieser Chronograph has a blue rubber strap and an IWC-made 69355 calibre chronograph movement.

A style with a pronounced contrast between the dial and subdials, sometimes referred to lovingly by watch aficionados as "panda dial," has often appeared in IWC's Portugieser series. The mix of the two hues enhances readability and creates a very unique image. This summer, the Swiss luxury watchmaker unveils two of its most recognisable Portugieser models with white and blue dials that share a united design language. The white dials have a lacquer polish finish, while the deep blue subdials have a "azurage" appearance. Not only do these nautical hues give these classic models a new and modern appearance, but they also serve as a reminder of the Portugieser's beginnings, whose unique design was first influenced by naval deck observation clocks.

The Portugieser Automatic (Ref. IW500715) has a 42,3 mm diameter stainless steel case, a white and blue dial, and blued feuille hands. The dial's balanced design positions the tiny seconds at nine o'clock and the power reserve indicator at three o'clock. This clock is driven by the 52010 calibre produced by IWC. Its automated Pellaton winding mechanism has been enhanced with ceramic components that are almost impervious to wear. It exploits even the tiniest rotations of the rotor in both directions to accumulate a 7-day power reserve in two barrels. The mechanism is visible through the sapphire glass case rear. This classic and refined Portugieser has a blue alligator leather band with a folding clasp.

The Portugieser Chronograph (Ref. IW371620) has a stainless steel case of 41 millimetres, a white and blue dial, and blued feuille hands. The chronograph minutes counter is at 12 o'clock, while the tiny seconds are at 6 o'clock. The IWC 69355 calibre with automated winding and a 46-hour power reserve is at work inside the case. The iconic column-wheel chronograph mechanism is visible through the sapphire glass case back. In addition, this stylish sports watch is equipped with a sturdy and flexible blue rubber band, which provides superior wearing comfort throughout the summer.

The Portugieser Automatic and Portugieser Chronograph are instantly accessible through IWC boutiques, authorised retail partners, and IWC.com. Both models are eligible for registration under the My IWC care programme, which extends the usual 2-year International Limited Warranty by an additional 6 years.
