The Rolling Stones and the American watch, accessory, and audio manufacturer Nixon will both be celebrating their 60th anniversaries that year. To celebrate, Nixon released a two-part, limited-edition capsule collection of watches, replacement watch bands, and other accessories with one of rock & roll's most recognisable symbols.
Nixon's best-selling and most popular watches are included in the Nixon x The Rolling Stones collaboration, from the most expensive to the most affordable. The five-watch offering was made in collaboration with Bravado and included a limited-edition Primacy, a large 51-30 Chronograph, two analogue Time Teller versions, and a digital Staple model. The album also includes cover versions performed by alternative groups.
The Primacy's elegantly shaped hands move around the bluesy date window and woven Tongue logo. Accurate timekeeping is guaranteed by the Japanese mechanical automatic three-hand movement and sweeping seconds featured on the watch's unique etched rotor. Its unique, solid stainless-steel deployment clasp and brushed five-link, 20mm stainless-steel band provide multi-point adjustability for optimal comfort and security. The 10 ATM / 100m water resistance certification and the scratch-resistant sapphire crystal guarantee durability. Due to the watcht's indestructibility (it doesn't need batteries), it could outlive even the Stones. This sophisticated automatic is limited to only 250 examples.
The face size (at 51mm) and water resistance rating (at 30) inspired the 51-30 moniker (30 ATM). Its rock 'n' roll subdial and neon sign typeface pay homage to the Stones' first performances in London's underground clubs. To avoid "wrist bite," the crown and pushers are located on the 9 o'clock side of the case, rather than the more conventional 3 o'clock. A four-hand quartz timepiece with a "rock and roll" subdial serves as a handy analogue indicator of how much time is left before the performance begins.
The all-gold edition of the Rolling Stones Time Teller has the original Tongue on an all-gold face with tonal gold indices and hands, while the all-red version showcases the Spiked Tongue logo, which was initially made popular on t-shirts during the Voodoo Lounge tour. The watch is water resistant to a depth of 100 metres (10 ATM).
The bright yellow case artwork, reminiscent of the Voodoo Lounge album, is contrasted with a black performance band adorned with images of Nixon and The Rolling Stones, making this digital release stand out. Nixon's Other People's Plastic, which is derived from ocean waste, is used to create the Rolling Stones Staple. It boasts a sleek design, an adjustable screen, and a high-performance band.
Spare Bands (about $40-$50)
The watches are sold with interchangeable bands so that buyers may personalise them. Two Rolling Stones 20mm Recycled NATO Bands ($40) feature the band's signature or the cover art for Tattoo You on sturdy, water-resistant straps. The 23mm FKM Rubber Band is comfortable to wear, can be removed and replaced quickly thanks to its spring bars, and sticks out because to its distinctive pattern, which was inspired by the artwork of the Voodoo Lounge record.
The first drop from Nixon's collaboration with The Rolling Stones will hit select online and physical Nixon stores on August 30, 2022.
The Primacy watch, priced at $1600 and limited to 250 pieces, is the showpiece of the line. This 20mm Japanese-made stainless steel band watch boasts neatly shaped hands that move around a woven Tongue logo and a blue date display. These are for those who want to show off their style with only a flick of the wrist because of how lovely they appear.
The 51-30, the perennial fan favourite Time Teller, Staple, and a collection of fill-in acts will also be available on August 30. The whole The Rolling Stones x Nixon collection will be available for purchase on the website.
