Onsloe, a New York City-based Custom-made, Limited-Edition Clothing Company, is Walking the Sustainability Talk

New York City Based Onsloe, a new brand, was established on the principle of sustainability. This young brand is actually the walking the talk on sustainability. Many luxury fashion brands can surely take a leaf out of their book.

Onsloe creates made-to-order menswear mainstays like selvedge jeans and cashmere jackets using small batches of British, Italian, and Japanese textiles. Only once a customer places an order does the garment go into production. Once that happens, the final product is mostly delivered in as little as ten days.

Smart Inventory Management

As a 35-year veteran of the fashion sector, Bjorn Bengtsson is an advisor to Onsloe. The whole concept is to prevent the old model that always existed in fashion, which is to acquire a lot of inventory and then sell from your inventory. In addition to reducing waste, the on-demand manufacturing strategy used by Onsloe allows for the personalization of each item. Choosing between a sport coat's flapped or patch pockets and the centre or side vents may be as simple as picking your favourite length, collar style, and whether or not you want a pocket on your overshirt.

The tech edge

Almost everything can be monogrammed, and this may be done in several places.

For now, buyers may choose between conventional and slim-fitting shirts when it comes to choosing their size, but the business is beta testing an app that will allow customers to scan themselves and enter their measurements. Bengtsson claims that the measurements obtained are 95% accurate, which implies that they don't even have to ask clients for their size - it will all happen automatically. It's anticipated that the digital tool will be available by the end of February 2022.

Onsloe is committed to purchasing small amounts of fabric, thus it purchases from high-end mills with reduced minimums. From Shetland wool from Scotland's Lovat mill to denim woven on historic looms, Crombie has become one of the most sought-after labels in fashion.

Seasonal Offerings

Approximately half of Onsloe's inventory will be seasonal, and current rolls of fabric may be used for new looks. A little excess cloth can be used in any way that Onsloe sees fit. According to Bengtsson, pyjamas may be made from unused shirt fabric.
Customers are also encouraged to keep their Onsloe clothing. Instead, the label offers a three-year warranty that covers normal wear and tear, such as stains or cracked seams, so buyers may return damaged items to be repaired at no cost to them other than the cost of original shipping.

On the other hand, if one of Onsloe's clothing is about to end up in the trash, the company would love to be the last destination.

Take Back by Onsloe

When you use the company's "take-back" programme, you can get a shipping label to return the item to its manufacturer. Longtime vintage fan Bengtsson thinks the items may be repurposed into one-of-a-kind designs. In its place, he creates another jacket, blouse, or laptop cover. He believes that instead of tossing things away, one ought to give them a second chance at life, if possible. There may be a few years before the take-back scheme pays off because the company is still in its infancy. As long as one less sweater or shirt ends up in a landfill, that's good enough for Onsloe.
