Phillips Organizes a Pop-up Exhibition of Lauren X Khoo's Fine Jewellery in Singapore in Conjunction With ART SG

Singapore/ Hong Kong – 5 JANUARY 2023

Phillips is delighted to exhibit seventeen creative pieces of fine jewellery by Singapore-born contemporary jewellery designer Lauren Khoo at the Mandala Club in Singapore on January 11, coinciding with the opening of ART SG, the biggest art show in Southeast Asia.

Her studies in art and architectural history motivated the 2014 launch of Lauren Khoo's eponymous jewellery business. Her jewellery is characterised by a timeless, evocative design, superb craftsmanship, and the ambition to restore a woman's unique symbolism and romance.

Cristel Tan, International Specialist of Phillips Jewels, said,

"It is an honour to present Lauren Khoo's imaginative jewellery designs. Young and capable independent jewellers, such as Lauren Khoo, are getting a great deal of attention on the worldwide jewellery market due to collectors' high desire for exquisite workmanship and one-of-a-kind design. Phillips is delighted to be the preeminent auction house specialising in the international dissemination of the works of renowned contemporary artists. We are pleased to collaborate with Lauren Khoo to exhibit her wearable works of art in her own country during the highly anticipated art week in Singapore."

Lauren Khoo said,

"I am thrilled to showcase my jewellery creation at the pop-up exhibition organised by Phillips during Singapore's art week. My grandmother, a passionate collector of handcrafted jewellery, fostered my lifelong passion for handcrafted jewellery throughout my teenage years. I developed a greater respect for the passion, uniqueness, and commitment of famous jewellers via private tours to their studios as I grew older. As opposed to the seasons, I am inspired by art, architecture, travel, and current events while I create. I am thrilled to exhibit my distinctive works at the Mandala Club on January 11, 2023."

The Makarov Pearl Necklace, for which the designer took inspiration from Ivan Makarov's picture of Princess Maria Alexandrovna, exemplifies Khoo's modern take on the conventional use of pearls as decoration. As a tribute to one of the most important artists, Anish Kapoor, Khoo designed the Kapoor Concave Earrings with a Moroccan Zellige pattern on the back.

The show also comprises one of Khoo's most recognised works, the Gummy Bear Eternity Ring. The ring is a new take on the conventional eternity band, with Aquamarine stones arranged next to one another to produce a vivid piece of jewellery for display. In his Chestnut line, which is inspired by nature and comprises both foliate and nut interpretations, the mix of burnished and blackened gold with diamond accents illustrates Khoo's edgy aesthetic and attention to detail.

On January 11, 2023 the Mandala Club will also display F.P. Journe watches from Phillips' Le Concours de Complexité: Single Owner Online Auction and works by Southern California artist Brett Crawford.

Exhibition Details:

Location: Mandala Club, 31 Bukit Pasoh Road, Singapore 089845

Date and Time: 11 January 2023, 12 pm-6 pm (Singapore time)
