Phillips is delighted to announce Robert Sleigh's appointment as Managing Director, Asia, located in Hong Kong. Mr. Sleigh has considerable expertise in the worldwide auction sector in Asia, the United States, and Europe, as well as in-depth understanding of all aspects of the art market.
Mr. Sleigh will be responsible for implementing, managing, and optimising all operational and procedural elements of Phillips in the area, with a focus on fulfilling the company's vision and strategic plan and driving the brand's development. He will head Phillips' Business Development team in Asia and manage the marketing and communications team in the area in collaboration with the Global Chief Marketing Officer.
"I am thrilled to welcome Robert to Phillips as we prepare to relocate to our new Asia headquarters in Hong Kong this spring," said Jonathan Crockett, Chairman, Asia, Phillips.
"We are firmly dedicated to expanding our presence in this region, which represents one of the world's most significant art and luxury marketplaces. The fast expansion of Phillips in Asia is a result of our creative approach and distinctive selling offer. I think this new appointment will put us in a solid position to capitalise on Phillips' huge regional potential. I anticipate his contributions to Phillips for the remainder of this year and beyond."
Prior to joining Phillips, Mr. Sleigh spent eight years as Managing Director – Business Operations at Sotheby's in Hong Kong, where he oversaw Post-sale and Pre-sale administration, Operations and Logistics, Client Strategy, Communications, and Marketing. His lengthy career at Sotheby's began in 1996 in the company's Wine department in New York, and he relocated to Hong Kong in 2010 as Head of Sotheby's Wine, Asia, expanding the company's wine business across the area and launching the house's retail wine business in 2014. Throughout his tenure in the auction industry, he has acted as an auctioneer for a number of significant sales and charitable events.
Phillips continues to see year-over-year growth in Asia, and the company's strategic emphasis remains on Asia's development.
Designed by Herzog & de Meuron and LAAB Architects, Phillips is entering a new chapter in the area this year with a beautiful new headquarters in the WKCDA Tower in Hong Kong's dynamic West Kowloon Cultural District.
Phillips will be the first auction house in Hong Kong to have a permanent purpose-built exhibition space, saleroom, café, and VIP lounge, enabling for year-round events and auctions in its own location. The new Asia headquarters spans over 50,000 square feet over six floors.
The state-of-the-art galleries and saleroom will open in March, coinciding with Art Basel Hong Kong, with an exhibition of 20th Century & Contemporary Art before the auctions in early April.
