Famous R&B artist, Akon is all set to build his very own sustainable smart city called Akon City, which is being designed to empower the youth of Africa. The city will feature payments primarily through a new cryptocurrency known as ‘Akoin’ that is being introduced to promote the use of digital currency.
The Senegalese American singer created the concept of this futuristic city as a second home to nationals, where they can live and work comfortably.
The construction for this project is to begin sometime next year while the entire plan is laid out across a wide area of 2000 acres and will feature buildings with intricately modern designs and high-end technology to match it.
This project is to be designed by Bakri and Associates Development Consultants along with a Los Angeles based firm and a team of architects from Dubai.
The smart city is to enable sustainable measures from clean energy, an artificial intelligence centre to Akon Lighting Africa- which provides solar energy is rural areas.
Apart from its surreal appeal and sustainable measures, Akon city will feature a luxury resort, a stadium, hospitals, high-rise condos, office spaces and much more.
Based in Senegal, which is Akon’s hometown where he spent a huge part of his childhood, this project was designed with the intent to stimulate the local economy and provide Senegalites with impending job opportunities.
He wants this space to feel like a second home to for Black Americans and other members of the African family who face racial injustice on multiple levels and wants Senegal to become their first stop within Africa.
The singer who has an estimated net worth of $80 million has already secured nearly one third of the required $6 billion. A Kenyan Entrepreneur by the name of Julius Mwale has apparently invested $4 million for building a Technological city, which is rather similar to what Akon city plans to accomplish.
While this could be a bonded disadvantage for the smart city, Mwale has had a history of being sued over failure to repay debts. Which is why, Akon is confident that his project will move forward without any obstacles.
The construction for Akon city is all set to begin early next year. The singer has future plans of expanding this venture across multiple other countries across the world.
A global empire promoting sustainable living by one of the biggest music artists? Sounds like we’re in for something big.
