"It is the point of departure for URWERK. The one who initiated everything. This year, it celebrates its 25th birthday, just as URWERK celebrates its own quarter-century of existence, according to Felix Baumgartner and Martin Frei.
It derives from their very first cooperation, the UR-102, which is undoubtedly one of the models that URWERK collectors want for the most.
"It was a timepiece designated for our inner circle, our friends and family. Those who believed in us initially, thus it is an emotionally charged work."
The good news is that it will be featured again on December 10, 2022, although in a "reloaded" edition. Unique item, number one in the UR-102'reloaded' series.
On 10 December 2022, in support of the burgeoning art scene, URWERK will present the Swiss Institute of New York with a one-of-a-kind work, the UR-102 "reloaded" No. 1.
This project's motivations are quite obvious. Martin Frei, the chief designer and co-founder of URWERK, says it best: "After graduating from the Lucerne University of Arts and Applied Sciences, I began my creative adventure in New York. With the help of a few friends, we established the U.S.A. (United Swiss Artists) organisation, an anchor point distant from home, a point of fall or, more accurately, support in tough times. The Swiss Institute's methodology reflects the same underlying concept. Our participation in this initiative was consequently obvious.
The #1 UR-102 will be auctioned off under the supervision of Phillips. This limited edition is the result of a partnership between URWERK and Cooper Jacoby, an American modern artist who reinterprets the UR-102 in its new "reloaded" form. Jacoby is an emerging artist who focuses on the operation of the systems that control our life. Using inventive treatments of materials such as nickel, copper, rubber, and silicon, the artist produces electrified sculptures, converting what is often unseen into arresting and bright perceptions.
Jacoby revisits the concept of graduating in this case. This first "reloaded" UR-102 has a roaming hour that shows time in both analogue and digital modes. On the dial of this one-of-a-kind watch, thermochromic pigments represent one of the most important regulating systems of the body: temperature. Thus, the dial of this UR-102 is modified via an unlimited spectrum of colour tones, reacting with and adapting to heat fluctuations. A'reloaded' UR-102 submerged in a regular state of flux.
Jacoby and URWERK's ever regenerating work combines the systematic accuracy of chronometry with the harmony of human biology.
