Masters Week, a series of parallel auctions of Old Master paintings, drawings, sculptures and nineteenth-century European art, is being held in New York in January 2022 by Sotheby's.
An Old Kingdom Egyptian limestone sculpture (2350–2290 BC) as well as European paintings and sculpture dating from the 14th to 19th centuries make up this season's Master Paintings and Sculpture Part I sale.
A religious painting by Botticelli, The Man of Sorrows, is being offered by Sotheby's following the record-breaking sale of Botticelli's Portrait of a Young Man Holding a Roundel in 2021.
As part of its Master to Master: The Nelson Shanks Collection auction, Sotheby's is also showcasing 53 lots of Baroque paintings and sculptures, as well as drawings and furniture, from the collection of American realist painter Nelson Shanks, as well as several pieces created by Shanks himself and items from his workspace. The Master Works on Paper from Five Centuries sale and The European Art Sale Part I are two of this year's live auctions that feature a wide variety of artworks. Final online sales include Master Paintings Part II, British and Old Master Works on Paper Part II, Master Sculpture & Works of Art and European Art Sale Part II, which finishes the week.
