Swiss Luxury Watchmaker Roger Dubuis Just Released Two Excalibur Limited-Edition Black Ceramic Masterpieces

Roger Dubuis has expanded its flagship Excalibur collection with the addition of two new superbly created black ceramic watches that ooze luxury through and through.

Excalibur, introduced almost 17 years ago in 2005 and inspired by the Arthurian mythology, is renowned for its avant-garde skeletonized motions that include a star pattern. The sleek new additions, which were introduced this week, include casings made completely of black ceramic.

Roger Dubuis unveiled the Excalibur Double Tourbillon and Excalibur Monobalancier, both of which have stunning black ceramic casings. Inside and out, the Swiss watchmaker's ceramic is firmly black and four times tougher than stainless steel and extremely scratch-resistant.

Roger Dubuis was successful in transforming raw clay into an unique casing. The method starts with a mixture of Zirconia powder and 3% stabilising Yttrium, resulting in the material's hyper-resistant hardness. The engineers turn these particles into a blank using a six-times-longer machining procedure than the industry norm. Up to 48 hours are then required for sintering and heating. The last step entails hand-finishing this very difficult material, which requires exceptional skill and painstaking attention to achieve. This stage produces an unalterable black finish.

The Excalibur Double Tourbillon, which was introduced in 2021, is now available in brilliant black ceramic. In this new ceramic casing, the RD108 movement and its two characteristic tourbillons have been rebuilt using lighter materials. This optimises the power reserve to a maximum of 72 hours. The star created by Roger Dubuis floats freely over the barrel. It appears and feels slimmer due to the 45mm casing and movement's precision-cut lines. This dynamic design is emphasised by its meticulously hand-finished and Geneva Prize-winning ornamentation.

The clock is offered with a flexible Quick Release System-equipped black strap in a limited edition of 28 pieces.

Roger Dubuis introduced its upgraded Excalibur Monobalancier at Watches & Wonders 2022, including a number of mechanical and cosmetic enhancements.

The Maison now introduces the brilliant black ceramic Excalibur Monobalancier. The watch is equipped with an automatic RD 720SQ movement with a 72-hour power reserve. The 42mm clock has clean-cut lines, a fluted bezel, and crisp notches, while the distinctive star has been redesigned to float freely over the barrel. Sand-blasted surfaces, satin-brushed surfaces, and polished angles are all approved by the respected Poincon of Genève. A black, embossed strap with an unique Quick Release System guarantees maximum adaptability.

The Roger Dubuis Excalibur Double Tourbillon Black Ceramic is restricted to 28 pieces and the price is available upon request, while the Excalibur Monobalancier Black Ceramic costs USD 67,500.

The Excalibur lineup presently consists of 23 distinct models, but few are as sleek or durable as this new black pair.
