It's well-known that Sylvester Stallone, the Academy Award-winning director, actor, writer, and producer, harbors a deep passion for watch collecting.
This June 5, 11 coveted pieces from Sly’s extraordinary collection will grace #SothebysNewYork.
Highlighting the auction is a Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime, one of only seven ever made, which could command up to $5 million. This model is renowned as Patek Philippe's most complex wristwatch, featuring 20 different complications, including five chiming mechanisms and a date repeater.
The history behind Sylvester Stallone's love for luxury watches
After completing his breakthrough role in "Rocky," Sylvester Stallone encountered Gregg Allman of the Allman Brothers Band, who inadvertently showcased a gold watch while asleep. This moment, as described by Stallone in a Sotheby’s video, ignited his passion for watch collecting, a hobby that has spanned several decades.
Stallone shared that acquiring the Grandmaster Chime was no small feat, involving extensive appeals and communications with the board before he was finally deemed worthy to own this masterpiece.
The sale also includes memorabilia linked to the watch, such as a presentation box with Stallone’s name and an iPad and AirPods encased in Patek Philippe leather.
Another standout piece, a Patek Philippe from the Nautilus series, adorned with an olive-green dial and 32 Wesselton baguette diamonds, is expected to attract bids up to $400,000. The auction will also feature luxury watches Stallone wore in his films, including a special 2016 Rolex marking the 60th anniversary of its dual day-date display model, and an Audemars Piguet with a pink gold case, which could fetch around $200,000.
Stallone’s decision to auction these watches, including the Grandmaster Chime described as the auction's "undisputed centerpiece," reflects his philosophy of appreciating fine art and sharing it with others. He regards his collection not merely as accessories, but as embodiments of history, craftsmanship, and personal sentiment.
Stallone hopes these watches will find new homes where they will continue to be cherished and appreciated. The auction will also feature additional prestigious brands like Panerai, Cartier, and Piaget, with varying estimates indicating a broad appeal to collectors.
