TAG Heuer, Team Ikuzawa, and the Bamford Watch Department have collaborated to produce a revolutionary timepiece that pushes the limits of what is possible in the watchmaking industry.
The outcome of the collaboration between these three legendary brands in the high-end customised and racing industries is really spectacular.
The name Tetsu Ikuzawa is intertwined with the fabric of auto racing history. He joined his first motorbike race at the astonishingly young age of 15, and the rest of his life has been one long series of races. His lacklustre performance on the pitch was no match for his unyielding will to succeed, and he was awarded the coveted "Fighting Spirit Award" as a result, setting the stage for a really extraordinary career.
When Tetsu switched from motorcycles to cars in 1963, he created history by competing in the Japanese Grand Prix for the Prince Motor Company. An important part of his racing career can be traced back to this decision, since it sparked the beginning of the Skyline GT racing dynasty.
But in 1967, when there was a severe lack of race-ready vehicles, Tetsu did something really remarkable: he leased a Porsche 906 from a Japanese importer. In the end, he prevailed, making Porsche an overnight sensation in Japan and securing his lifetime devotion to the brand. Tetsu's racing career brought him all over the world, including to Europe, where he raced in major events including the British Formula Three Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. His extraordinary results paved the way for the establishment of Team Ikuzawa, now famous for its distinctive red and white livery that pays homage to the family's artistic roots.
Tetsu's daughter Mai Ikuzawa, who has collaborated with the likes of automotive and design icons like her father and her grandfather before her, takes the stage in this project. The combination of Mai's unique style, her deep-rooted Japanese cultural heritage, and the racing tradition of her father make her the perfect partner for TAG Heuer in developing a new watch. This partnership with TAG Heuer is a shining example of her avant-garde thinking and her commitment to bringing innovation to initiatives in the automotive industry.
Customizer and design expert George Bamford is renowned for his eye for aesthetics and knack for balancing practicality with form. George's deep respect for TAG Heuer and his passion for automobiles run in the family, making him an ideal partner for this one-of-a-kind endeavour. His mastery is so complete that it adds additional dimensions of originality and refinement to the clock.
Together, we were able to create a stunning red and white watch that pays respect to Team Ikuzawa and its deep cultural traditions. With a white opaline dial and a stunning red 60-second/minute scale, the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Team Ikuzawa by Bamford is a remarkable timepiece. The rhodium plating and high polish of the hands and indexes, together with the white Super-LumiNova® and red lacquer, give off an air of sporting sophistication.
The in-house Heuer 02 movement gives off an air of sophistication and reliability within its 42mm steel casing, which has been meticulously brushed and polished. The sapphire crystal is both scratch-resistant and light-proof because to its bevelled, dome shape and double anti-reflective treatment. This watch can withstand depths of up to 100 metres of water, making it ideal for motorsports fans to take on any expedition.
A white fabric strap and the words "Team Ikuzawa" are embroidered on a steel three-row bracelet with the TAG Heuer shield. On the back of each watch is engraved "XXX/100," the "Team Ikuzawa" emblem, and "BAMFORD WATCH DEPT." in steel, and the sapphire case is screwed shut.
The TAG Heuer Carrera Chrono Team Ikuzawa by Bamford is a one-of-a-kind timepiece produced in just 100 units. Tetsu and Mai Ikuzawa have been assigned the 1 and 100 spots, respectively. TAG Heuer and Team Ikuzawa have collaborated on this unique package, which has their respective logos and colours (white and red). A small Porsche, evoking the spirit of Tetsu's incredible victories in the Porsche 906 at the 1967 Japanese Grand Prix, is included in the box as a tribute to his racing skill in Japan.
