The oldest continuously functioning art exhibition in South Korea, Kiaf Seoul, has announced its exhibitor for this year's edition, which is projected to attract more international attention than in the past due to the rising importance of the South Korean art industry.
The show anticipates an increase in international attention due to its co-location with the first Frieze Seoul from September 3 to 6 at the Coex convention centre. Numerous European galleries, including Perrotin, Galleria Continua, and Axel Vervoordt, will participate in both events. Additionally, Kiaf will establish a satellite fair in the SETEC convention centre that will concentrate on experimental practises, new media art, and NFTs. From the 2nd through the 5th of September, Kiaf Plus will include 73 galleries, including Blank Space and Urban Spree Galerie.
164 galleries from across the globe are slated to participate in the 2022 edition of the Kiaf Seoul. The fair will be somewhat equivalent in size to Kiaf 2019, the final event conducted before the epidemic.
Kiaf Seoul featured the involvement of a large number of the country's most prestigious galleries, including Kukje Gallery, Gallery Hyundai, PKM Gallery, Jason Haam, Arario Gallery, and Leeahn Gallery, among others. The European galleries Esther Schipper, Perrotin, Galleria Continua, and Axel Vervoordt will be represented at both of these shows.
Additionally, 37 exhibitors that have never previously participated in the Kiaf Seoul will be present. Rachel Uffner Gallery, Galerie Thomas Schulte, Cristea Roberts Gallery, Anat Ebgi, Carvalho Park, and Ora-Ora are some of these galleries.
However, the majority of exhibitors at Kiaf Seoul are from South Korea. Since the Galleries Association of Korea started the show in 2002, this has been the situation.
Frieze The four biggest galleries in the world, David Zwirner, Gagosian, Hauser & Wirth, and Pace, are among the galleries showing in Seoul. Other renowned Western galleries showing in Seoul include Gladstone, Thaddaeus Ropac, Mitchell-Innes & Nash, Commonwealth & Council, Sadie Coles HQ, Galerie Lelong & Co., and kamel mennour.
In addition, Kiaf will launch a satellite fair called Kiaf Plus. This event will take place in the SETEC conference location, which is about 20 minutes via public transportation from Coex. According to a news release, the show will include "ambitious and experimental presentations spanning numerous genres and approaches," such as new media art and art NFTs.
73 galleries will display their art at Kiaf Plus. Blank Space, Cylinder, Everyday Mooonday, Urban Spree Galerie, Gallery Banditrazos, and Gallery Chosun are few of these galleries. The event will take place from September 2 to September 5 with a VIP peek on September 1, 2022.
Dal-Seung Hwang, president of the Galleries Association of Korea, said, "With over two decades of history and experiences, Kiaf is in a unique position to exhibit contemporary Korean art with unmatched depth and breadth." "With over two decades of history and experiences, Kiaf is in a unique position to exhibit the depth and breadth of contemporary Korean art." This year, our roster of exhibitors includes more international participation than ever before, and we couldn't be happier that we've become a worldwide crossroads for the art world.
