The DEFY Extreme E Copper X Prix by ZENITH Watches Commemorates an Extreme E race

For the first time ever, an Extreme E race will be held in South America, at the Antofagasta Minerals Copper X Prix in Chile, and ZENITH has just unveiled their third limited-edition timepiece in honour of the event (24 – 25 September). The DEFY Extreme E Copper X Prix is a limited edition watch that incorporates recycled and upcycled materials from the championship itself. Its carbon fibre and titanium construction and earthy colour palette are both inspired by the local copper mines.

Based on the DEFY Extreme Carbon, the world's lightest and most durable 1/100th of a second automatic high-frequency chronograph, comes the DEFY Extreme E Copper X Prix.

The crown and the chronograph pushers are both made of carbon fibre, making the piece lightweight while still being very strong. As with the rest of the case, the microblasted titanium pusher protectors and twelve-sided bezel highlight the sharp angles of the design. The official colour of the consecutive races is a warm coppery-brown, and that hue was used in the design of the new watch.

The dial's open construction reveals components made of tinted sapphire crystal and coppery-brown decorations. The fastest automatic high-frequency chronograph calibre available beats at 5Hz (36'000 VpH) for the timekeeping portion and 50Hz (360'000 VpH) for the chronograph function, both of which are partially visible through the dial and the sapphire case back. The Copper X Prix logo is etched into the sapphire display back, making the movement visible to the wearer.

The Continental CrossContact tyres used in the inaugural season of DEFY Extreme E Copper X Prix races were recycled into the watch's rubber strap. The Velcro strap has a brown cordura-like rubber inlay surrounding a black rubber core. The watch comes with two extra straps, one made of black rubber and the other of black Velcro; both can be changed in a matter of seconds without the need for any tools thanks to the ingenious and straightforward quick strap-change mechanism located on the case back.

Waterproof and crushproof, the new DEFY Extreme E watch is protected by a rugged watch case. The plate coating is constructed from remnants of an Extreme E racing tarpaulin, and the lid coating is made from recycled E-grip tyres.
