This electric guitar which he built in 1940 was made of 4x4 piece of solid pine with a neck, bridge, tailpiece, strings and hand-wound pickup attached.Ultimately Ted McCarty from Gibson created a guitar using Les Paul’s guitar design, and paid him a percentage of the royalties.
In 1952, Les Paul gave thumbs up to the “Number One,” that boasted of a metallic gold paint, cream binding and two P-90 pickups.
