The New Mid-Rear-Engined Berlinetta Spider by Italian Luxury Car Maker Ferrari is Exceptional

Ferrari, the Italian luxury sports car company, has recently introduced the 296 GTS, the newest development of Maranello's two-seater berlinetta spider with a mid-rear engine. The car's name is derived from the overall displacement (2992 l) and cylinder count of the engine, as well as the GTS (Gran Turismo Spider) abbreviation.

The 296 GTS is equipped with a new 663 cv 120° V6 engine and a 122 kW (167 cv) electric motor, which debuted on the 296 GTB. This is the first time a six-cylinder engine has been fitted to a street-legal spider.

The engine generates a class-leading 830 cv of total power, enabling previously inconceivable levels of performance and a novel, exciting, and distinctive soundscape.

The 296 GTS is a very useful vehicle because to its plug-in hybrid (PHEV) technology.

With the addition of modern dynamic control systems and finely tuned aero, the driver will be amazed at the car's agility and response to orders.

The vehicle is equipped with a lightweight retractable hardtop. When the roof is folded, the design is sleek and athletic; when the roof is raised, the profile is remarkably similar to that of the 296 GTB.

The hard top retracts or deploys in about 14 seconds at speeds of up to 45km/h. The folding roof is divided into two portions that fold flat against the engine's front end, preserving the engine bay's thermal dissipation properties. This also enabled the designers to include a glass into the back part of the engine cover, allowing for a better view of the new V6. When the top is lowered, a height-adjustable glass rear screen separates the cabin from the back deck, ensuring ideal passenger comfort even at high speeds.

The cockpit of the 296 GTS was designed on the novel idea of a computerised interface. When the engine is switched off, the onboard instruments become inoperable.

Exclusive Italian leather covers the seats, and aerodynamic flaps have been fitted into the rear trim structure to minimise buffeting. The sculptural entrance panel is illuminated by a deep lozenge-shaped scoop. The distinctive diapason-style seats have contrasting grooves that harmonise visually with the instrument cluster's edge strip.

The 296 GTS is available with the Assetto Fiorano package, which adds lightweight components and aerodynamic enhancements. It incorporates adjustable Multimatic shock absorbers adapted from GT racing that are tuned for track usage; high-downforce carbon-fibre appendages on the front bumper; and increased use of carbon-fibre in the interior and exterior.
