The 27th Annual Red Carpet Gala Opens the Door for New Inclusive Fashion Categories and Expands Recognition of Influencer Contributions to the Fashion Industry.
New York, 25 August 2022 - Fashion Group International (FGI) has announced that the 2023 Rising Star Awards would have expanded and more inclusive categories. With this revelation, the fashion advocacy group located in New York City explores new ground in reclassifying and consuming clothes today.
In three unique award segments, the 27th annual red carpet event will celebrate Fashion Apparel Collections designers. Eveningwear, Ready-to-Wear, and Activewear will replace the previously awarded Womenswear, Menswear, and All Gender categories. This move is consistent with the developing market trends that FGI has followed as part of its continuing market study.
FGI will also offer for the first time a new category honouring outstanding content producers who have collaborated with fashion clothing or cosmetics businesses on campaigns. The returning categories of Beauty Entrepreneur, Accessories, New Retail Concept, Sustainability, and Fine Jewelry will again award new talent.
*New this year* - Partnerships - Recognizing new collaborations (between 1 and 6 years) between fashion clothing or cosmetics brands and content producers.
*New this season* - FASHION CLOTHING COLLECTIONS - FGI has rethought the gender categories for the Traditional Rising Star Awards in response to market changes and a shifting fashion and consumer scene. According to their intended clientele, all designers are invited to apply for recognition in the following categories:
EVENINGWEAR
PREPARED TO WEAR
ACTIVEWEAR
ACCESSORIES - Honoring superiority in soft items (fashion jewellery and scarves) and hard goods (shoes and handbags)
BEAUTY ENTREPRENEUR - Recognizing founders/brands for innovative scent, body, and skincare products, as well as colour cosmetics.
Recognizing exceptional luxury fine jewellery design and ideas
NEW Retail Concept - Recognizing remarkable new ideas and advances in consumer sales. May include bundling, packaging, new categories, new sorts of research, customer service, and other creative strategies for fulfilling the demands of modern consumers.
SUSTAINABILITY AWARD - Recognizing brands for social and/or environmental activism and effect. This prize is open to all applicants in addition to other categories.
Applications for the Rising Star Awards will begin on August 29 at fgi.org. The finalists will be selected in December 2022. The awards ceremony and gala event will be held in May of 2023, with judging and member voting commencing in early 2023.
Maryanne Grisz, President and Chief Executive Officer of FGI, said, "Fashion Group International has a long history of shifting the needle in our business and shaping the dialogue around current fashion subjects. We will remove gendered category names and update apparel awards under the Fashion Apparel Collections to include three distinct awards for Eveningwear, Ready-to-wear, and Activewear segments for the 2023 FGI Rising Star Awards in order to reflect the ongoing consumer market demand for clothing fluidity. These new categories are open to entries from any designers."
She added, "We would also want to acknowledge the growing importance of social influencers in the fashion industry and are pleased to celebrate their efforts for the first time publicly with the new FGI Rising Star Collaborations Award."
