There is always something amazing is occurring at Vakkaru Maldives. In preparation for the holiday season, the timeless island hideaway in the pristine Baa Atoll has added two new fascinating offerings: the Jungle Cinema and the Anguru Teppanyaki restaurant.
The Jungle Cinema stands true to its moniker. It is situated in a secluded area in the island's centre and is surrounded by beautiful tropical foliage. Ideal for families, small groups of friends, or a romantic movie date for two, the theatre seats up to ten people. There is a broad variety of film genres to pick from, and two screenings are available each night: the first at 7:30 p.m. and the second beginning at 9:30 p.m.
A private movie showing at the Jungle Cinema includes unlimited soft drinks and snacks, while visitors may also choose for a movie night with a set menu meal for a more elaborate evening out.
The openings of Jungle Cinema and Anguru Teppanyaki are planned for the holiday season.
Anguru, the new teppanyaki restaurant and the resort's sixth food and beverage outlet, is a wonderfully engaging dining experience that complements Vakkaru's fascinating dine-around tour. In the traditional Maldivian kitchen, coconut shells were used for fire and cooking in the past. The byproduct was "coconut shell charcoal," or "anguru" in Dhivehi, which is afterwards used for grilling. The restaurant's name also honours the island's history as a coconut farm, which still has 2,300 coconut palms.
The restaurant, set in a thatched-roof gazebo by the main pool, allows customers to see the skilled cooks slicing, dicing, and searing the food in front of them. Anguru is a lunch and supper restaurant with 10 seats with a la carte and set menus for lunch and dinner, respectively. The a la carte menu features a delectable assortment of sushi, maki rolls, nigiri, and sashimi at the meal's beginning. Diners may choose from a variety of quality meats and fresh seafood for the main course, such as Australian Wagyu, Angus cattle, Maldivian Grade A tuna, Scottish Salmon, and Maldivian lobster. All entrees are served with miso soup, teppanyaki veggies, Japanese pickles, and Japanese fried rice. Desserts include flambéed pineapple and ice cream packed with batter-fried profiteroles.
The set dinners Sunset Flair and Ocean Delight feature sushi, sashimi, soups, entrees, and desserts. The Surf and Turf set begins with a seafood soup, varied sushi, lobster popcorn, pineapple, and Malibu sorbet. The main courses consist of fresh lobster from the Maldives and Tajima Wagyu beef MB, pan-seared foie gras, baby vegetables, and vegetable fried rice. The orange macerated flambé crepes provide a delightful conclusion to the meal.
Iain McCormack, general manager of Vakkaru Maldives, stated of the enhanced guest experiences,
"All of our customers are affluent luxury travellers. And at Vakkaru, we are always searching for ways to enhance and elevate the experiences we provide to meet and surpass our customers' expectations. As a consequence, both Jungle Cinema and the Anguru Teppanyaki restaurant have been polished with a meticulous eye for detail to provide our customers with remarkable, one-of-a-kind experiences."
