The Royal Oak Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon Extra-Thin by Audemars Piguet is Magnificent & Brilliant

Audemars Piguet, a Swiss producer of Grande Luxury Timepieces introduces the Royal Oak Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon Extra-Thin. Audemars Piguet has presented the first all-new Royal Oak "Jumbo" ref. 16202 to commemorate the model's 40th anniversary.

Calibre 2968, the Manufacture's latest selfwinding ultra-thin flying tourbillon movement, powers the watch. Previously reserved for 41 mm diameters, this difficulty necessitated repositioning of some of its components. The titanium tourbillon cage has a peripheral drive for the first time. Not only does the combination of these two parts improve energy distribution to the tourbillon, but it also serves to lighten and purify this regulating organ.

To maximise visibility of the tourbillon and movement, Audemars Piguet engineers totally modified the mechanism's construction. The Royal Oak Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon Extra-Thin is equipped with a revolutionary escapement that highlights the intricacies while disclosing a portion of the movement's inner workings. The design and arrangement of the balance wheel arms have been adjusted significantly to enhance the visibility of the watch's movement. The flying tourbillon was positioned at dial level to provide a more immersive visual experience.

The hand ornamentation of the movement components combines the classical elegance of V-angles with the contemporary of characteristics tirés – a finish that emerges on the mainplate and bridges in lieu of the customary Côtes de Genève. The openworked, rhodium-toned bridges contrast with some mechanism components' pink-gold tones.

Due to the tiny movement and unique tourbillon configuration, the "Jumbo" tourbillon is officially designated as the RD#3, the third watch in the brand's line of creative complications that began with the Royal Oak Supersonnerie and continues with the Royal Oak RD#2 Perpetual Calendar.

Notably, Audemars Piguet has announced the production of a 37 mm Royal Oak tourbillon equipped with the same movement in September 2022.
