Top Most Luxurious Cities in The World

Luxury cities of the world

When you go through the list of the most expensive cities in the world you would definitely come across a few surprises.

We have noted a few of the top 20 most expensive cities in the world that also happen to the best luxurious cities in the world currently.  There are many factors that account for a city being categorized as a luxury city. Also to be counted among the top most luxurious cities in the world takes a lot more in terms of character, convenience, style, fashion, connectivity and global attraction. A true luxury city offers a holistic experience of life, glamour, glitz, culture, aesthetics, charm and is essentially a melting pot of many things that the modern world values today. Our list of the top most luxurious cities of the world is an attempt to capture the spirit of some of the most happening, glamorous and trending luxury cities in the world. However this list is a work in progress and more luxury cities from across the world will be regularly added with details of their luxury quotients being shared too.

Although this is not the most expensive cities in the world list but by default some of the most luxurious cities globally are also some of the most expensive ones too.

1. Paris

Paris - the city of love, romance and fashion! Who wouldn’t dream of owning a beautiful apartment in the 7th arrondissement and waking up to a gorgeous view of the Eiffel Tower?

Chic clothing, sumptuous food, spectacular architecture and breathtaking sunsets are only some of the endless redeeming qualities that make Paris a dream city. Being home to internationally loved brands such as Chanel, Dior, Louis Vuitton, and Yves Saint Laurent- we know that Paris has impeccable fashion sense. Housing one of the most adored theme parks in the world, we know Disneyland Paris will always be around the corner to provide us with pure, unadulterated joy. Displaying some of the greatest works of art created by masterminds throughout centuries- we know the Louvre museum will continue to baffle us with an exquisite collection of paintings, sculptures, statues and its stupendous architectural designs. And who can forget the food? Proudly being home to several Michelin star restaurants, and boasting an exemplary cuisine and wine collection, both of which are exotic and flavorful- we know Paris will always keep broadening the horizons of our palate. We just have to make sure we have a fat bank balance before stepping inside. But despite this, nobody can help but say only this to the City of Lights, “Je t’aime Paris!”

2. New York

Nicknamed the ‘Big Apple’ and the ‘City That Never Sleeps’ among many others, NYC is, simply put, the world’s hub- constantly buzzing with a flurry of activities, movement and excitement. Being the most populous city in the United States of America, and one of the most populous megacities in the world, it influences revolution in almost every sector in the world. Right from being the global fashion and arts capital to being home to the headquarters of the United Nations, NYC is diverse like no other place is.

Luxury in New York is a heavenly experience, and there would only be little else that could top off that overwhelming feeling. Right from standing in the middle of the brilliantly lit Times Square (especially on New Year’s eve- seeing the ball drop is an experience of a lifetime), to indulging in an ostentatious $1000 Golden Opulence Sundae at Serendipity; New York can simply spoil you silly.

Not to forget -it is, after all, home to Broadway. Watching a play in midtown Manhattan would be a beautiful, golden, authentic experience. Apart from all of this, New York is a gorgeous city, its skyline being one of the most stunning sunset sights adorned by structures such as the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, the World Trade Centre and much more. Also, Central Park could easily be called one of the prettiest gardens in the world. It doesn’t get any better than this- New York is amazing.

3. Hong Kong

This shining Chinese city with the largest number of skyscrapers in the world is an absolute glam location and an excellent tourist destination. Famous for hosting long shopping sprees and wooing tourists with its overall awesomeness, every part of Hong Kong is thickly coated with a decadent layer of luxury. With cuisines from all around the world, the Michelin star restaurants are an absolute treat for the gastronomy. With brands like Gucci, Versace, Burberry and BVLGARI spread out in massive malls with high-end retailer boutiques, retail therapy is a given. And after a long day full of shopping, exquisite and sensual spa treatments can help relax and soothe muscles. So, for a luxurious, high-maintenance and fabulous life- Hong Kong is the place to be.

4. London

The golden child of good old Britain, London, with its evergreen rustic charm and its air of genial sophistication can win over anybody’s heart. London’s luxury lies in its streets- the cobble stoned alleys, the aesthetic vintage walls and the iconic telephone booth; one could simply have an impromptu photo-shoot while walking down London roads. The awe-inspiring historic architecture and the rich English legacy add an authenticity to its beauty like nothing else can. The Buckingham Palace is a behemoth beauty, the Big Ben stands tall and proud over the glistening dark water of the Thames and a statue of Oscar Wilde lies grandly yet humbly near Trafalgar Square.

Experiencing royalty in London is a different feeling altogether. Complete from eating the English breakfast at a little quaint and pretty café, shopping at Oxford street or Harrods from a collection of chic and high-end brands, picnicking in the gorgeous Hyde Park, visiting the marvellous Madame Toussads wax museum, riding the London Eye and watching the sunrays glisten on the cool waters of the Thames, to finishing off with watching an opera at the Royal Opera House- London is magic.

5. Tokyo

Capital of Japan and tech capital of the world, Tokyo is the perfect amalgam of the ultramodern and the traditional- while neon lit skyscrapers mark its skyline, serene temples and tea houses dot its land. Tokyo is considered an alpha+ city owing to its exceptional status in the global economy. It is a leading center not only for research and development, but has also been awarded the most Michelin stars of any city in the world by the Michelin Guide- the myriad of fine cuisine here can blow anybody’s mind. World famous also for having hosted several international events like the Summer Olympics and a sizeable chunk of the Fortune Global 500 companies, there is absolutely nothing that this city isn’t a champion of. Speaking of beauty, Tokyo has beautiful lakes, rivers, glamorous shopping arcades, aesthetic little hole-in-the wall cafes, gorgeous parks (with those cute bonsai plants!) and authentic lantern-lit markets.

In a nutshell, super-fast life plus the beauty of nature makes Japan a wonderful place to live in.

6. Los Angeles

The global paradigm of all things glitzy and glamorous, LA is a land of dreams. Home to Hollywood and a truckload of gorgeous celebrities, this Californian city can sweep anyone right off their feet! LA can have two different avatars, both equally beautiful, both equally enchanting. By day it is the summer destination of the year with its endless palm trees billowing in the wind and stunning beaches with clear aqua blue waters. By evening it turns into the land of paparazzi, red carpets and award functions, what with its breathtaking collection of Lamborghinis and limousines, 7 star restaurants and suntanned population sauntering around in tuxedos and flamboyant evening dresses. All of this means that the standard of living and the cost of living is crazily high in LA, making it one of the most expensive places to live in the USA.

7. Dubai

An oasis of luxury and glamour smack dab in the middle of a desert, Dubai is an international hub for tourism, finance and business. It is also home to the world’s tallest building, the resplendent Burj Khalifa, and that is definitely something everyone should see in person. There is nothing that is not opulent about Dubai. From the massive gold souks, terrific desert safaris, the picturesque hotel Atlantis that will steal the breath away to world renowned malls, haute couture, 5 star gourmet restaurants and one of the best collection of sport cars lounging on the streets. Phew, Dubai life is nothing short of luxury personified.

8. Zurich

Listed among some of the most expensive cities in the world, Zurich is one idyllic, gorgeous Swiss city. It is an international hub for finance, teeming with banks, financial centres and business universities. Zurich has excellent rail and road networks, and tourism is definitely one of its biggest strengths. Luxury shopping and fancy, decadent chocolates coupled with the beautiful lakes and dreamy view of the Alps make for a perfect, heavenly experience here. Apart from this, it is also extremely rich in history and architecture, so the plethora of museums, stunning landmarks and churches can definitely make a Zurich visit even more authentic and informative. However, the prices for basic commodity here can make anyone’s eyes bulge out of its sockets. The standard of living and the income of the residents here is so high that paying exorbitant prices for otherwise inexpensive items is no big deal for them, making Zurich another quite expensive location to live in.

9. Las Vegas

Known as the ‘Sin City’, Las Vegas is the glamorous and notorious gambling destination of the world. Hosting multiple world-class hotels, a resort, casinos and adult entertainment centres, Vegas is ‘the’ destination for fun lovers and spendthrifts around the world. City-themed resorts and casinos such as The Venetian, Paris Las Vegas, New York Hotel & Casino and Luxor Hotel & Casino are extremely popular internationally.  Everything is luxurious and over-the-top on ‘The Strip’, a 4.2 mile long stretch located immediately to the south of Las Vegas city. It has a concentration of the best and most luxurious casinos, shopping centres, restaurants, hotels, contemporary architecture, dazzling lights, and an iconic skyline that is every tourist’s dream to witness in the night.

10. Monaco

The second smallest city in the world after the Vatican, Monaco is a land replete with boats, yachts and millionaires. It is known as a ‘tax haven’ because of the non-income tax and low business tax policies. Additionally, Monaco hosts two very luxurious events- the Monaco Yacht Show and the Monaco Grand Prix, the annual street circuit motor race. It is also known as the ‘Billionaire’s Playground’ as approximately every one in three people in Monaco is a billionaire, and Monaco’s per capita GDP is the second highest in the world. One can only imagine how stately the houses there would be. With a collection of some of the finest hotels, restaurants, casinos and shopping centres, Monaco is perhaps the most expensive, luxurious mini-city in all of Europe.

11. Milan

This European city has such a dreamy name; one can only imagine how dreamy it looks like. Flanked by regal church spires, Milan skies look something straight out of a painting. It is internationally recognised as a leading center in history, architecture, arts, fashion, tourism, trade and also is largely renowned for being a fashion capital and hosting the Milan Fashion Week. More than anything else though, Milan is paradise for all history buffs. Every monument and building is rich with imprints of heritage and has a unique story to tell. The museums are some of the greatest in the world, with the Leonardo da Vinci museum being a must-visit. The Piazza del Duomo holds a spectacle that would be physically impossible to tear the gaze away from- the gothic cathedral that attracts tourists from far and wide. And since it has already been established that Milan is a fashion capital, the shopping at Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the world’s oldest shopping mall, which is a marvellous glass-ceilinged arcade, will be phenomenal. It is indeed every shopper’s paradise- filled with high-end boutiques such as Gucci and Prada. And finally coming to the next best thing about Milan- the food! One can gorge on the scrumptious pizza, risotto, lasagna, the endless array of pastas, and all things inherently Italian. The coffee and desserts, too, are an absolute delight. All in all, Milan is a splendid place.
