TWO FACED by Antar-Agni, A Masterclass in Contradiction and Craftsmanship at Lakme Fashion Week 2024

Antar-Agni by Ujjawal Dubey: A Legacy of Style and Innovation

Ever since Ujjawal Dubey introduced Antar-Agni at Lakmé Fashion Week's GenNext show in 2014, the label has carved its niche in the fashion world. Initially known for its classic menswear, the brand has expanded into womenswear, adding a gender-fluid aesthetic that has earned widespread acclaim.

"Two Faced" at Lakmé Fashion Week: A Dance of Contrasts

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Antar-Agni's latest collection, "Two Faced," debuted at Lakmé Fashion Week’s Sustainable Fashion Day in 2024. The collection was a perfect reflection of the brand's core—contrasts between structure and fluidity, minimalism and opulence, tradition and modernity. Ujjawal crafted a story that speaks to the many layers of human personality, offering a bold, avant-garde experience that resonated deeply with the audience.

Render, Wander, Surrender: A Visual Journey

The collection unfolded in three interconnected segments—Render, Wander, and Surrender.

Render: Structured ensembles featuring three-piece suits, long trenches, and sleek western silhouettes.

Wander: A monastic-inspired look with high-waisted pants, draped wrap-ons, and barefoot models that embodied detachment from materialism.

Surrender: The final culmination that blended structured pieces with expressive headpieces, celebrating the synergy of contrasts.

True to Antar-Agni’s roots, Ujjawal incorporated hand-woven cottons from Uttar Pradesh, lush silks from Varanasi, velvets, and metallic accents. The carefully chosen palette—charcoal, black, forest green, and aubergine—was perfect for the festive season, creating garments that exude elegance and nighttime glamour. His attention to detail and impeccable tailoring once again proved his mastery in creating garments that connect deeply with his audience.

What truly set this collection apart was its exploration of duality. The intricate handwork, developed after years of experimentation, took center stage. Ujjawal skillfully combined tailored, sharp ensembles with fluid drapes and layered fabrics. The use of translucent materials added an element of mystery, while abstract hand-embroidered motifs elevated the designs, creating an interplay of reveal and conceal—much like the complex human emotions the collection sought to represent.

Celebrating Complexity and Authenticity

In its 10th year, Antar-Agni's "Two Faced" is a celebration of the human spirit—complex, ever-evolving, and unapologetically authentic. Ujjawal Dubey has once again demonstrated that his designs are not merely fashion statements but reflections of individuality, vulnerability, and the courage to embrace all facets of one’s personality.
