With the addition of the Flying Spur Speed, the most track-focused member of the Flying Spur luxury performance sedan family, Bentley has completed its new lineup of Grand Tourers.
Because there are potentially millions of possible configurations for a Bentley, the most up-to-date product catalogue has been streamlined to help consumers choose the Bentley that best fits their needs with little effort. The portfolio is split down the middle, with one side emphasising driver comfort and the other emphasising performance on the road. At the top of either side are Mulliner vehicles that provide the best of both worlds.
With the introduction of the Flying Spur Speed, Bentley has completed its lineup with a model that is identical to the Continental GT and Bentayga. Since the ordinary Flying Spur W12 will no longer be manufactured after May of this year, the Flying Spur Speed, along with the Flying Spur Mulliner, is the only option for customers interested in a W12-powered Flying Spur.
The Flying Spur Speed stands above the S model and offers an additional 85 PS and 130 Nm more torque, offering an improvement of 0.4 seconds to 60mph and a rise in peak speed up to 207 mph proving its superior position. The 626 horsepower 6.0-liter twin turbocharged W12 engine is matched by the agility of Electronic All Wheel Steering, Torque Vectoring by Brake technology, and Bentley Dynamic Ride, all of which are included as standard equipment.
Dark tinted front grilles, headlights, and taillights, as well as a trademark Speed logo on the lower wing, are all recognisably external Speed style features. The special 22" Speed wheel is standard, and it comes in a variety of styles and colours. Additional 22" sports design wheels in Gloss Black or Pale Brodgar Satin are available as an upgrade. Fuel and oil filler lids on the Flying Spur Speed are jewelled as well. Bentley's Styling Specification (carbon fibre front splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser, and modest bootlid spoiler) and Blackline Specification are still available as add-ons to further emphasise the car's performance emphasis.
Inside, a new, distinctive colour scheme is used, and Dinamica is applied to all of the passenger contact points, creating a cabin with an unrivalled blend of performance and elegance. Bentley employs Dinamica Pure, which differs from standard Dinamica in that it is constructed with 73% post-consumer recycled polyester. With Piano Black veneer as standard and Crown Cut Walnut, Dark Stained Burr Walnut, or Dark Fiddleback Eucalyptus as optional, the number of available inside leather colours jumps from five to fifteen.
The instrument cluster now has new performance infotainment visuals that take design cues from high-end wristwatches. Standard comfort features for the front and back seats include 24-way adjustment for the front seats and 14-way adjustment for the back seats, continuing the luxurious theme. All seats have climate control, massaging, and memory settings for two different positions. There are also lighted Speed inner and outer treadplates, sports pedals, and Speed fascia badges and emblems inside the vehicle.
In the United States and Europe, the Flying Spur Speed is predicted to be the most popular model, accounting for around a third of Flying Spur sales. In the Middle East, the proportion of Flying Spur Speed orders is estimated to be approximately one in five.
Mechanical Underpinnings and Engine
The Flying Spur Speed has a peak speed of 207 mph (333 km/h) and can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds (100 km/h in 3.8 seconds) because to its powertrain's 635 PS (626 bhp) and 900 Nm (664 lb.ft) of torque.
The Flying Spur shares the Continental GT's 8-speed ZF dual-clutch gearbox, which allows for swifter gearshifts, smoother acceleration, and better gas mileage. Pre-selecting the next gear allows for a quicker shift, minimising the time that torque is cut off from the wheels. Sixth gear is the top gear, while seventh and eighth are utilised for economical grand touring after you've attained your top speed in sixth.
A clutched mechanism transmits power to the rear wheels of the Flying Spur Speed. Then, as an active all-wheel drive system, it will transmit power to the front axle when necessary, depending on the road conditions and wheel slip. hence, the turn-in reaction has also been enhanced. As a result, the Flying Spur's steering wheel can be turned with the speed of thought, and the car's front end feels considerably more nimble. All-wheel drive makes the automobile seem more stable and balanced by essentially eliminating the understeer effect that is common with conventional AWD.
Changing the Drive Dynamics Mode affects how the torque is distributed. The technology can transfer up to 480 Nm of torque to the front axle in Comfort and Bentley modes, improving grip and driveability. For a more engaging drive, the system's Sport setting reduces the amount of torque sent to the front axle to 280 Nm while keeping the rear axle's level of torque same. An axle-specific torque-vectoring-by-brake system is also installed.
The confidence-inspiring handling of the Flying Spur Speed comes from its well-balanced dynamic accuracy. The state-of-the-art All-Wheel Drive, Electric All-Wheel Steering, and Bentley Dynamic Ride are largely responsible for this.
The standard Electronic All-Wheel Steering improves the vehicle's stability at high speeds and its manoeuvrability in urban environments. The mechanism flips the direction of the rear wheels with respect to the front wheels during low-speed manoeuvres. Because of this, the wheelbase is shortened, the turning circle is decreased, agility is increased, and parking is much simplified.
High-speed manoeuvres are made safer and more secure with the system's ability to steer the rear wheels in the same direction as the front wheels. With Electronic All-Wheel Steering, you don't have to choose between high-speed security and low-speed ease of use.
Bentley's Dynamic Ride System was developed to enhance the driving experience without sacrificing control. To counteract cornering forces and maintain the Flying Spur level, a 48-volt system operates an electronic actuator unit responsible for anti-roll bar rigidity.
When it comes to front discs, the Flying Spur and Continental GT both use the same massive 420 millimetre units. Bentley logos may be seen on the front gloss red callipers, and a gloss black finish is available for an additional fee.
Enhanced Visibility
Bentley's latest performance model, the Flying Spur Speed, looks just as well as it performs because to the Styling Specification's attention to detail.
The front bumper splitter, side skirts with metallic Bentley emblems, rear diffuser, and boot lid spoiler all come hand-crafted in high-gloss carbon fibre to specific tolerances as part of the Styling Specification, which is the result of a comprehensive development effort.
For a more modern take, consider the Blackline Specification, which replaces much of the external brightwork with Blackware to give the already formidable Flying Spur an even more commanding appearance on the road.
Blackline vehicles have unique external trim, including the Flying B mascot, radiator vanes, matrix grilles, side window trim, and lower door and rear bumper blades. The same high-quality, stealthy black paint is applied to the headlight and taillight surrounds, door handles, wing vents, and exhaust outlets.
The Beginning of the Flying Spur's Production Addition of the Speed rounds out Bentley's new lineup, giving buyers more options than ever.
The normal Flying Spur W12 will no longer be manufactured, making the Flying Spur Speed one of the last versions to use the legendary W12 engine.
With 85 more horsepower and 130 more pound-feet of torque, the Flying Spur Speed easily outperforms the Flying Spur S.
Built-in Bentley Dynamic Ride and Electronic All-Wheel Steering.
It can reach a top speed of 207 mph (333 km/h) and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds (from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds).
The front grilles have been given a special dark tint treatment, giving them a sportier look.
In addition to the special 22" Speed wheel, a 22" sports wheel is also available as an alternative.
Dinamica was used to create the one-of-a-kind Speed interior colour scheme and performance-oriented cabin.
